Lirica-class Cruise Ship
The ''Mistral'' class is a class of cruise ships, now owned and operated by MSC Cruises and Ambassador Cruise Line. There are currently five active ''Mistral''-class cruise ships, the lead vessel, (1999 as ''Mistral'', intended as ''Ambition'' 2023), (2001 as ''European Vision''), (2002 as ''European Stars''), (2002) and (2003). History The lead vessel ''Mistral'' was originally ordered by Renaissance Cruises in the summer of 1996, but the order was later withdrawn. The yard and bankers together held ownership of the ship through a company called Auxiliaire Maritime. During construction at Chantiers de l'Atlantique, the order was taken over by Festival Cruises, which would be receiving its first new-build vessel. The vessel has 1,268 passenger cabins which can accommodate 2,550 passengers double occupancy, served by approximately 987 crew members. ''MSC Sinfonia'' is a cruise ship owned and operated by the Italy-based MSC Cruises. She was built in 2002 by Chantiers de l'Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire, France for the now-defunct Festival Cruises as MS ''European Stars''. She was the last ship built for Festival Cruises. Renaissance Cruises
Renaissance Cruises was a cruise ship operating company that was founded in 1989 and owned by Fearnley & Eger Rederi in Oslo, Norway. It was purchased by Edward Rudner (founder of Alamo Car Rental) as the company faltered during the Gulf War. It operated year-round cruise itineraries to the Mediterranean Sea, the Greek Isles, Tahiti and the South Pacific, northern Europe and Scandinavia.
