Lipscomb County Courthouse
The Lipscomb County Courthouse, on Courthouse Square in Lipscomb, Texas, was built in 1916. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008. It serves Lipscomb County, which was created/organized in 1886/1887. It is a Texas State Antiquities Landmark and a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark. It was deemed notable asthe most prominent historic building in one of the least-populated counties in the state of Texas. The courthouse is the focal point of the unincorporated town of Lipscomb, with a population of less than 50, and it serves as both the governmental and social center for the county's residents. Lipscomb ( ) is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Lipscomb County, Texas, United States. It is the Lipscomb county seat. The population was 37 at the 2010 census. Geography Lipscomb is located south of the center of Lipscomb County at (36.232224, -100.271869). Texas State Highway 305 forms the western edge of the community; the highway leads north to Darrouzett and south to Glazier. According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of , all land. Wolf Creek forms the northern border of the community; the creek flows east into Oklahoma to join the North Canadian River. Lipscomb is the locus of ZIP code 79056. The Texas Historical Commission is an agency dedicated to historic preservation within the state of Texas. It administers the National Register of Historic Places for sites in Texas. Recorded Texas Historic Landmark
Recorded Texas Historic Landmark (RTHL) is a designation awarded by the Texas Historical Commission for historically and architecturally significant properties in the U.S. state of Texas. RTHL is a legal designation and the highest honor the state can bestow on a historic structure. Purchase and display of a historical marker is a required component of the RTHL designation process. Because it is a legal designation, owners of RTHL-designated structures must give 60 days' notice before any alterations are made to the exterior of the structure.
