Lippy Lou
Lippy Lou (born Louise Neale; 12 July 1975) is a British recording artist who had a brief recording career in the mid-1990s. Career In 1995, Lippy Lou released two singles, "Liberation" and "Freaks", on Boy George's More Protein label. Both singles were produced by Mike Koglin, and entered the UK top 100 singles chart. "Liberation" was described by ''Billboard'' as a "coming out anthem." The chorus of "Freaks" was based on the Was (Not Was) song "Out Come the Freaks "Out Come the Freaks" is the name of a trilogy of songs by art-funk ensemble Was (Not Was). The trilogy consists of three songs that feature the same basic title, tune and chorus lyric: "Out Come the Freaks" (1981), "(Return to the Valley of) Out ...". Although Lippy Lou made further recordings, an album was not released. "Liberation" is a 1995 song by British recording artist Lippy Lou, released as her debut single. Produced by German DJ and producer Mike Koglin, it was described by ''Billboard'' as a "coming out anthem" and was released on Boy George's record label More Protein. It peaked at number 57 on the UK Singles Chart, but was a even bigger hit on the UK Dance Chart, reaching number 8. Outside Europe, it peaked at number 102 in Australia. A music video was made to accompany the song, directed by director Ben Unwin. It has a blue sepia tone. In 1996, the song was again released as "Liberation (The CD Comeback Mixes)", with new remixes. In a 1994 interview, Lippy Lou told about making the song, "I first thought of making this record to save on all the stamps I'd have to buy to tell everyone back home about my sexual preferences. Ragga
Raggamuffin music, usually abbreviated as ragga, is a subgenre of dancehall and reggae music. The instrumentals primarily consist of electronic music. Similar to hip hop, sampling often serves a prominent role in raggamuffin music. Wayne Smith's " Under Mi Sleng Teng", produced by King Jammy in 1985 on a Casio MT-40 synthesizer, is generally recognized as the seminal ragga song. "Sleng Teng" boosted Jammy's popularity immensely, and other producers quickly released their own versions of the riddim, accompanied by dozens of different vocalists. Ragga is now mainly used as a synonym for dancehall reggae or for describing dancehall with a deejay chatting rather than singjaying or singing on top of the riddim. "Out Come the Freaks" is the name of a trilogy of songs by art-funk ensemble Was (Not Was). The trilogy consists of three songs that feature the same basic title, tune and chorus lyric: "Out Come the Freaks" (1981), "(Return to the Valley of) Out Come the Freaks" (1983), and "Out Come The Freaks" (1987) (later issued as "Out Come the Freaks (Again)".) Despite the three songs' abundant similarities, each song is distinctive, as differing lyrics in the verses of each song tell stories about different societal outcasts. Was (Not Was) is an American pop rock group founded in 1979 in Detroit, Michigan, by David Weiss and Don Fagenson, who adopted the stage names David Was and Don Was.
