Lipnice Nad Sázavou
Lipnice nad Sázavou (german: Lipnitz an der Sasau) is a town in Havlíčkův Brod District in the Vysočina Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 600 inhabitants. Administrative parts The village of Vilémovec is an administrative part of Lipnice nad Sázavou. Geography Lipnice nad Sázavou is located about west of Havlíčkův Brod and northwest of Jihlava. It lies in the Křemešník Highlands. The highest point is the hill Pyramida at above sea level. Despite the town's name, the Sázava River does not flow through the municipal territory and there are no significant watercourses. The pond Kamenná trouba and the eponymous nature reserve are located west of the town. History The first written mention of Lipnice is from 1226. Karel Čáslavský (28 January 1937 in Lipnice nad Sázavou – 2 January 2013 in Prague) was a Czech film historian and television host. Čáslavský worked as a historian for the National Film Archive (Národní filmový archiv) of the Czech Republic (and Czechoslovakia) from 1963 until his death in 2013. Čáslavský created and hosted several television shows including the long-running ''In Search of Lost Time'', which aired on Czech TV for more than twenty years. Jindřich Matyáš Thurn
Count Jindřich Matyáš of Thurn-Valsassina (german: Heinrich Matthias Graf von Thurn und Valsassina; it, Enrico Matteo Conte della Torre di Valsassina) (24 February 1567 – 26 January 1640), was one of the leaders of the Protestant Bohemian Revolt against Emperor Ferdinand II. Jaroslav Hašek (; 1883–1923) was a Czech writer, humorist, satirist, journalist, bohemian and anarchist. He is best known for his novel '' The Fate of the Good Soldier Švejk during the World War'', an unfinished collection of farcical incidents about a soldier in World War I and a satire on the ineptitude of authority figures. The novel has been translated into about 60 languages, making it the most translated novel in Czech literature. Lipnice Bible
The Lipnice Bible is a Latin biblical manuscript written in the first half of the 15th century in Bohemia. It was partially finished in May 1421 "in Lypnicz", very likely in Lipnice nad Sázavou. It is currently part of the collections of the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C. Description and history The Lipnice Bible is written on parchment and contains 431 folios. The codex is not a mere Bible but contains a number of added texts. The decoration of the manuscript was carried out in three different phases, as the codex was forced to change its location. Thus it is a precious witness to a restless period of the Hussite Wars. The only figural illumination of the Lipnice bible shows God as the Creator at the beginning of the book of Genesis. Sázava () is a river in Bohemia, Czech Republic. It is a right tributary of the Vltava. It is long, and its basin area is , mostly contained in the Vysočina and Central Bohemian regions (except for a small area in the northeastern corner of Tábor District, South Bohemian Region). Křemešník Highlands
Křemešník is a mountain in the municipality of Nový Rychnov in the Vysočina Region of the Czech Republic. The mountain lies near the town of Pelhřimov and is part of Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. With an elevation of above sea level, it is the highest mountain of the Křemešník Highlands. History The mountain was a traditional gathering place for pilgrims. In 1710–1720, a Baroque-style church was built on the top of the mountain (extending an older, Gothic church building from 1555). Stations of the cross has been built as well. During the 15th century, a silver mine existed there. Next to the spring with slightly radioactive water lies a small chapel from 1689.
