Linyuan Old Street
Linyuan District () is a suburban district of Kaohsiung, Taiwan. It has 70,423 inhabitants in 2016. It is the southernmost district of the city. History The prehistory era of the district can be traced back to the artifacts found at the Fengbitou Archaeological Site. Ming Dynasty The district used to be the administrative, commercial and cultural center of Xiaozhu Li during the Ming Dynasty. Qing Dynasty During the Qing Dynasty, Xiaozhu Li was renamed Xiaozhu Upper Li and Xiaozhu Lower Li. Republic of China After the handover of Taiwan from Japan to the Republic of China in 1945, Linyuan was organized as a rural township of Kaohsiung County. On 25 December 2010, Kaohsiung County was merged with Kaohsiung City and Linyuan was upgraded to a district of the city. Geography This district is part of Kaohsiung built up area which encompasses 10 cities (''or districts'') out of 18 in official Kaohsiung Metro Area. Districts are administrative subdivisions of the Taiwan, Republic of China (Taiwan)'s special municipality (Taiwan), special municipalities of the second level and provincial city (Taiwan), provincial cities of the third level formerly under its Provinces of China, provinces. There are two types of district in the administrative scheme. Ordinary districts are governed directly by the municipality/city government with district administrators appointed by the mayors to four-year terms. The mountain indigenous district is a local government body with elected district chiefs as well as district council serving four-year terms. Former Dinglinzihbian Police Station
The Former Dinglinzihbian Police Station () is a historical building in Linyuan District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. History The police station building was originally built in February 1898 as Yuan Dinglinzibian Police Station at Fusing Street. Soon, public school, market and township office were set up around the neighborhood, turning the area into a political and economic center for Linyuan. In 1907, it was renamed Linzibian Police Station and underwent renovation in 1909 as what it is today. After the handover of Taiwan from Japan to the Republic of China in 1945, the government took over the police station and put it under the administration of Fongshan District. In 1958, it was restructured as Linyuan Police Station. In 1989, the police station was relocated to its current address at Linyuan North Road due to space congestion at Fusing Street. Linyuan Cingshueiyan Former Japanese Military Tunnel
The Linyuan Cingshueiyan Former Japanese Military Tunnel () is a tunnel in Fongshan Hill, Linyuan District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. History The tunnel was built in 1943 by the Imperial Japanese Army during the Japanese rule of Taiwan to fend off the landing of United States Armed Forces. Geology The tunnel stretches from Linnei Village through Fongshan Ciouling and ends in Fongbitou in Jhongmen Village. Part of the tunnel which is largely intact is around the Longpan Cave. Huang Family Historical Residence
The Huang Family Historical Residence () is a historical house in Ganpu Village, Linyuan District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. History The house was constructed in 1834 by the Huang family who migrated to Taiwan from Fujian in the 18th century. In 1977, the house was damaged by Typhoon Thelma and was later renovated. The house was declared a historical building on 15 December 2003 because of its significant value to understand the development of the village. In March 2016, an opening ceremony was held to mark the end of renovation and the opening to the public. Architecture The house was constructed with the southern Fujian architectural style with five layers which spreads over an area of five hectares. The house has five halls with three wings on the left and nine wings on the right. The wings on the left and right are connected to the first main hall.
