Linha De Guimarães
The Linha de Guimarães (Guimarães railway line) is a railway line in Portugal operated by Comboios de Portugal, which runs between Porto and Guimarães. Until 1986 it extended eastwards to Fafe. It was extensively modernised in the 2000s, including conversion from metre gauge to Iberian gauge track and electrification. Narrow gauge line The first proposals for a railway to Guimarães were for the "CF Americano" in 1871, which would have linked Porto to Santo Tirso, Guimarães and Braga. The route would have followed the nationally maintained Royal Roads 32 and 27, but the scheme was unrealistic, and no progress was made. However, on 28 December 1872, an alternative was proposed, which would follow the Ave valley, and a concession to carry out surveys and construct the line was granted. Vizela Railway Station
Vizela () is a municipality in the Braga District in Portugal. The population in 2011 was 23,736, in an area of 24.70 km². The present mayor is Vitor Hugo Salgado, elected as an independent. The municipal holiday is March 19. History In August 2000, an outbreak of Legionaires' disease occurred in Vizela. A total of 11 persons infected with Legionnaires' disease, all of them inhabitants of Vizela, were admitted to the Guimarães Hospital. There were no fatalities. All infectees had been in the main square of Vizela in the night of August 11–12, 2000, where the annual festivities of the municipality were being held. Investigators traced the source of the outbreak to a decorative fountain located in the square. Track Gauge Conversion
Track gauge conversion is the changing of one railway track gauge (the distance between the running rails) to another. In general, requirements depend on whether the conversion is from a wider gauge to a narrower gauge or vice versa, on how the rail vehicles can be modified to accommodate a track gauge conversion, and on whether the gauge conversion is manual or automated. Sleepers If tracks are converted to a narrower gauge, the existing timber sleepers (ties) may be used. However, replacement is required if the conversion is to a significantly wider gauge. Some sleepers may be long enough to accommodate the fittings of both existing and alternative gauges. In finance, the operating ratio is a company's operating expenses as a percentage of revenue. This financial ratio is most commonly used for industries which require a large percentage of revenues to maintain operations, such as railroads. Mondego River
The Rio Mondego () or Mondego River is the longest river entirely within Portugal, Portuguese territory. It has its source in Serra da Estrela, the highest mountain range in Continental Portugal, mainland Portugal (i.e. excluding the Portuguese islands). Lousada () is a town and municipality of the Porto district, in northern Portugal. The population in 2011 was 47,387, in an area of 96.08 km².
