Linha Direta
''Linha Direta'' (lit. ''Direct Line'') was a Brazilian television program broadcast by Globo Network. Similar in style and loosely based on the United States program, ''America's Most Wanted'', this program has also helped the Brazilian authorities apprehend many criminals at large trying to escape justice. The program was cancelled in 2007. There were two special editions of the program: ''Linha Direta Justiça'' that presented famous Brazilian crimes, like the Candelária massacre, the death of Josef Mengele and the Jules Rimet theft on Rio de Janeiro; and the ''Linha Direta Mistério'', about stories of the supernatural, like the Operação Prato, the legend of the thirteen souls that died on the Joelma fire and cases of NDE. All shows featured reenactments using actors as well as interviews with journalists and principal characters. Near-death Experience
A near-death experience (NDE) is a profound personal experience associated with death or impending death which researchers claim share similar characteristics. When positive, such experiences may encompass a variety of sensations including detachment from the body, feelings of levitation, total serenity, security, warmth, the experience of absolute dissolution, and the presence of a light. When negative, such experiences may include sensations of anguish, distress, a void, devastation, and vast emptiness. People often report seeing hellish places and things like their own rendition of "the devil." Explanations for NDEs vary from scientific to religious. Neuroscience research hypothesizes that an NDE is a subjective phenomenon resulting from "disturbed bodily multisensory integration" that occurs during life-threatening events. Joelma Fire
''Edifício Praça da Bandeira'', formerly known as the Joelma Building, is a 25-story building in downtown São Paulo, Brazil, completed in 1971, located at Avenida 9 de Julho, 225. On 1 February 1974, an air conditioning unit on the twelfth floor overheated, starting a fire. Because flammable materials had been used to furnish the interior, the entire building was engulfed in flames within twenty minutes. Of the 756 people occupying the building at the time, 179 were killed and 300 injured. The Joelma Building fire happened less than two years after another deadly fire in downtown São Paulo, that of the Andraus Building. As of 2021, the Joelma fire remains the second-worst skyscraper fire ever in terms of the death toll, after the collapse of the World Trade Center in New York City on September 11, 2001. Operation Saucer ( pt, Operação Prato; literally, ''Operation Plate'') was an investigation carried out between 1977 and 1978 by the Brazilian Air Force following alleged UFO sightings in the city of Colares. The investigation was closed after finding no unusual phenomena. History Precedent events In 1977, numerous UFOs were reported in the Brazilian city of Colares, Pará. Local residents claimed that scars on their bodies were caused by the lights in the sky, and named the lights "Chupa Chupa" (literally ''Sucker-Sucker'').
