Lindøy
Lindøy is an island in the Byfjorden in Stavanger municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The island lies about northeast of the centre of the city of Stavanger. It sits in an archipelago surrounded by the islands of Vassøy, Hellesøy, and Kalvøy. All of those islands are connected to the mainland only by boat. Orphanage The island was used as an orphanage for more than a hundred years, established by Lars Oftedal in the late 1800s. A local adage in Stavanger was that parents would tell their boisterous children to "beware, otherwise I will send to Lindøy!" The reason for the institution of Lindøy was priest and politician Lars Oftedal bought the large island in 1887. The following year opened the so-called ("Rescue Home and Educational Institution") which had space for 30 "perverse and depraved boys." Hellesøy or Hedlesøy is an island in Stavanger municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The island lies in an archipelago at the mouths of the Gandsfjorden and Høgsfjorden, about east of the centre of the city of Stavanger. The island lies close between the islands of Lindøy and Kalvøy and together, the three islands form a "neighborhood" within the city of Stavanger. Lars Oftedal (born 1838)
Lars Svendsen Oftedal (27 December 1838 – 2 May 1900) was a Norwegian priest, social reformer, politician, and newspaper editor. He was the founding editor of ''Stavanger Aftenblad'' and served as a member of the Storting. Background He was born in Stavanger as the son of teacher Svend Oftedahl (1812–83) and Gunhild Ommundsdatter Stokke (1809–81). His father was a teacher at Stavanger Cathedral School. His younger brother Sven Oftedal (1844–1911) was a Norwegian American Lutheran minister who served as the 3rd president of Augsburg University and helped found the Lutheran Free Church. Oftedal passed his examen artium in 1859 and entered University of Oslo, Royal Frederick University in Oslo, Christiania where he studied theology under Gisle Johnson (1822–1894). Vassøy
Vassøy is an island in Stavanger municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The island lies in the Storhaug borough, about northeast of the centre of the city of Stavanger in an archipelago. The islands of Roaldsøy, Bjørnøy, and Langøy lie to the west and the island of Lindøy lies to the southeast. Vassøy had 702 inhabitants (in 2016) who all live along the western shore of the island; the eastern side is more rugged and wooded. The island has a primary school with around 80 pupils. The only access to the island is by private boats or the regular ferry route administered by Kolumbus that goes from Vassøy to the city centre. A bridge connecting Vassøy to either Bjørnøy or Roaldsøy has been approved, but a starting date for construction has not been set. Storting
The Storting ( no, Stortinget ) (lit. the Great Thing) is the supreme legislature of Norway, established in 1814 by the Constitution of Norway. It is located in Oslo. The unicameral parliament has 169 members and is elected every four years based on party-list proportional representation in nineteen multi-seat constituencies. A member of Stortinget is known in Norwegian as a ''stortingsrepresentant'', literally "Storting representative".
