Lindy's Pride
Lindy's Pride (1966 – June 25, 1997) was an American Standardbred racehorse and sire. He won the Triple Crown of Harness Racing for Trotters as a three-year-old in 1969 but was retired owing to chronic hoof problems a year later. He later became a successful breeding stallion. Background Lindy's Pride was a bay horse bred in Pennsylvania by Hanover Shoe Farms and was originally given the name Galahad Hanover. As a yearling in 1967 he was bought for $15,500 by Lindy Farms in association with the Antonacci and the Lomangino families and renamed Lindy's Pride. During his track career he was trained by Howard Beissinger. The Standardbred is an American horse breed best known for its ability in harness racing, where members of the breed compete at either a trot or pace. Axworthy (horse)
Axworthy (1892–1917) was an American Standardbred horse. A descendant of Hambletonian 10, he is considered one of the most important sires in the development of the modern Standardbred breed. History Axworthy created a bloodline in the making of the American Standardbred through the Hambletonian 10 offspring George Wilkes. Axworthy was bred by A B Darling, New York at the stud at Terre Haute, Indiana at the stock farm of W P Ijams. He was developed first by Budd Doble at Terra Haute and when three-years-old by John Young, Kentucky. In 1896 Axworthy was bought by John H Shults, Brooklyn, New York at an auction in Madison Square Garden, New York. From there he was sent to Parkville Farms. Ones more in the sale ring 1906 he was sold to William Simpson and sent to Lexington, Kentucky. Axworthy was a tall studhorse of impressive conformation, with a grand slashing stroke. A horse hoof is the lower extremity of each leg of a horse, the part that makes contact with the ground and carries the weight of the animal. It is both hard and flexible. It is a complex structure surrounding the distal phalanx of the 3rd digit (digit III of the basic pentadactyl limb of vertebrates, evolved into a single weight-bearing digit in horses) of each of the four limbs, which is covered by soft tissue and keratinised (cornified) matter. Elitloppet (literally: "The Elite Race") or Solvallas Internationella Elitlopp is an annual, invitational Group One harness racing, harness event that has taken place at Solvalla Racetrack in Stockholm, Sweden, since 1952. The competition is regarded as one of the most prestigious international events in trotting. The winner is decided through two qualifying rounds and a subsequent final later the same day. Both the eliminations and the final are raced over the mile. The overall purse for the 2022 event was SEK11,350,000, equalling approximately US$1,073,000. In 2002 the Italian champion Varenne, (considered the strongest trotter of all time), took it in a world record time of 1:10.4 in the elimination and then bested that mark by winning the final in 1:10.2 – the fastest mile ever trotted around three turns. American Harness Horse Of The Year
The Harness Horse of the Year is an honor recognizing the top harness racing horse in the United States. The award is selected by the United States Trotting Association and the United States Harness Writers Association (USHWA), which issues the annual Dan Patch Award, Dan Patch Awards. The inaugural honor was awarded to Victory Song (horse), Victory Song of Castleton Lyons, Castleton Farms Stables, named the "Harness Horse of 1947" by a committee that consisted of 50 harness racing writers, radio commentators, and sports editors. Victory Song picked up 23 first-place votes, to lead a field of 22 horses that had been nominated for the honor, edging stablemate Hoot Mon, which finished second in the balloting. Victory Song had set the harness racing record for stallions with a time of 1:57.6 in the mile. E. Yonkers Futurity
The Yonkers Trot is a harness racing event for three-year-old Standardbred trotters raced at a distance of one mile at Yonkers Raceway in Yonkers, New York. The race was created in 1955 to join the Hambletonian and the Kentucky Futurity to form the new United States Trotting Triple Crown. Historical race events Driven by Joe O'Brien, California runner Scott Frost followed up his victory in the Hambletonian Stakes with a win in the 1955 Yonkers Trot inaugural. The colt went on to win the Kentucky Futurity to become the first winner of the Trotting Triple Crown.
