Lindfield, New South Wales
Lindfield is a suburb on the Upper North Shore of Sydney in the state of New South Wales, Australia. It is 13 kilometres north-west of the Sydney Central Business District and is in the local government area of Ku-ring-gai Council. East Lindfield is a separate suburb to the east, sharing the postcode of 2070. This suburb of 5.17 square kilometres contains residential housing of California bungalow and federation style, in double brick and tile construction. Australian native bushland in Garigal National Park and Lane Cove National Park borders the suburb. History Lindfield was originally the home of the Kuringgai indigenous people. Europeans first became active in the area in around 1810, when the colonial government set up a timber gathering camp staffed by convicts. By the 1840s, fruit growing and farming became the suburb's primary industries. Settlement began to increase in the latter half of the nineteenth century. Lindfield is a village and civil parish in the Mid Sussex District of West Sussex, England. The parish lies to the north-east of Haywards Heath, and stands on the upper reaches of the River Ouse. The name 'Lindfield' means 'open land with lime trees.' The parish Church, All Saints, stands at the top of the High Street and its history goes back to 1098. One of the oldest houses in the village is Church House, formerly known as The Tiger, and still referred to as "The Tiger" by Lindfield residents. Lindfield Rugby Club
The Lindfield Rugby Club is an Australian rugby union football club in Sydney. The club's home ground is in the suburb of East Lindfield. Lindfield competes in the NSWSRU competition. The Lindfield Juniors Rugby club is also one of the largest for junior players in Australia. History The Lindfield Rugby Club was founded in 1919 by soldiers returning from the first world war. The club played in local rugby competitions before being admitted to the Metropolitan Sub-Districts Rugby Union in 1948 and winning the minor premiership in that year. Lindfield remained in first division for most of the next five decades, being relegated once for the 1987 season before returning to the top level for another eight seasons until 1995. The club then spent most of the next twenty years in lower divisions, aside from two seasons in first division for 2009 and 2010. Robert Jesse Lindfield (1901–1959) was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1920s and 1930s. Background Lindfield was born in Orange, New South Wales on . Playing career Lindfield came to Western Suburbs in 1923. He played eleven seasons for Wests between 1923 and 1934. He played hooker in two premiership winning teams: 1930 and 1934. He shifted to Canterbury-Bankstown for two seasons between 1935 and 1936 before retiring. Craig Anthony Lindfield (born 7 September 1988) is an English semi-professional footballer who plays as a winger for Airbus UK Broughton who compete in the Cymru North. Early life Lindfield attended Brookdale Primary School from 1993 to 2000 and then Calday Grange Grammar School between 2000 and 2005, and played cricket for his local club Upton CC. Youth career He joined the Liverpool Academy in 1996 aged 8, and worked his way up through the club's youth teams. In 2005–06 he won the FA Youth Cup for the first time as a 17-year-old when Liverpool beat Manchester City 3–2 on aggregate, finishing the competition as Liverpools leading goal scorer in the competition.
