Lindertis Football Club was an association football club from Kirriemuir in Scotland. History The club was founded in 1883, taking its name from the Lindertis estate near the village, and its first reported match was a 5–0 win over a team of shoemakers in October that year. The club entered the Scottish Cup five times. It lost in its first tie in four of those seasons; its 14–1 defeat to Forfar Athletic in 1888–89, 11 of the Forfar goals coming in the first half, remains the Loons' biggest-ever win. The club only ever won one Scottish Cup tie, in 1887–88. In the first round, the club met Dundee Harp, who had beaten Lindertis the previous season 4–3, a match in which Lindertis had been 3–0 down at half-time, fought back to equalize, and conceded a winner at the end. Kirriemuir, sometimes called Kirrie or the ''Wee Red Toon'' ( gd, An Ceathramh Mòr; IPA: nˈkʰʲɛɾəvmoːɾ, is a burgh in Angus, Scotland. It reaches back to earliest recorded times, when it is thought to have been a major ecclesiastical centre. Later it was identified with witchcraft: some older houses still feature a " witches stane" to ward off evil. In the 19th century, it was a major centre of the jute trade. The playwright J. M. Arbroath () or Aberbrothock ( gd, Obar Bhrothaig ) is a former royal burgh and the largest town in the council area of Angus, Scotland, with a population of 23,902. The Forfarshire Cup is a football competition in Scotland competed for by teams in the Forfarshire Football Association from Angus, Dundee and Perth. The name of the competition is often baffling to some, as "Forfarshire" is an archaic and anglicised name for Angus which became official in the late 19th century around the time of Local Government (Scotland) Act 1889 which restructured and renamed many of Scotland's counties, however the name quickly fell into disuse and was very rarely used in everyday conversation and non existent today. The Forfarshire Football Association was founded in 1883 and comprised eighteen clubs. Twelve from Dundee, two from Arbroath and one each from Broughty Ferry and Lochee (both independent of Dundee at the time), Coupar Angus and Montrose. Forfar ( sco, Farfar, gd, Baile Fharfair) is the county town of Angus, Scotland and the administrative centre for Angus Council, with a new multi-million pound office complex located on the outskirts of the town. Coupar Angus (; Scottish Gaelic, Gaelic: ''Cùbar Aonghais'') is a town in Perth and Kinross, Scotland, south of Blairgowrie and Rattray, Blairgowrie. The name Coupar Angus serves to differentiate the town from Cupar, Fife. The town was traditionally on the border between Angus, Scotland, Angus and Perthshire, the town centre being in Perthshire.
