Linda Reinstein
Linda Reinstein (December 28, 1955, San Diego, California) is the co-founder of the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO), a nonprofit focused on asbestos awareness and preventing related diseases through education, advocacy, and community efforts. She became an activist after her husband, Alan, was diagnosed with mesothelioma in 2003. In 2004, she and Doug Larkin founded ADAO to reach out to those affected by asbestos-related diseases. Now serving as president and CEO, Reinstein has focused the power of social networks to unite those affected by asbestos-related diseases and those fighting for a ban on asbestos in the U.S. and worldwide. Since 2004, Reinstein has been a strong political voice for justice in every significant asbestos-related issue. She has frequently served as a U.S. Congressional witness. Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization
The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) is a nonprofit organization in the U.S. dedicated to preventing asbestos exposure, eliminating asbestos-related diseases such as mesothelioma, and protecting asbestos victims' civil rights through education, advocacy, and community initiatives. ADAO was founded by Linda Reinstein and Doug Larkin in 2004 and is headquartered in Redondo Beach, California. Sustainability Advocates
Specific definitions of sustainability are difficult to agree on and have varied in the literature and over time. The concept of sustainability can be used to guide decisions at the global, national, and individual levels (e.g. sustainable living). Asbestos
Asbestos () is a naturally occurring fibrous silicate mineral. There are six types, all of which are composed of long and thin fibrous crystals, each fibre being composed of many microscopic "fibrils" that can be released into the atmosphere by abrasion and other processes. Inhalation of asbestos fibres can lead to various dangerous lung conditions, including mesothelioma, asbestosis, and lung cancer, so it is now notorious as a serious health and safety hazard. Archaeological studies have found evidence of asbestos being used as far back as the Stone Age to strengthen ceramic pots, but large-scale mining began at the end of the 19th century when manufacturers and builders began using asbestos for its desirable physical properties.
