Linda Bement
Linda Jeanne Bement (November 2, 1941 – March 19, 2018) was an American model and beauty queen who became the third Miss USA to be crowned Miss Universe. She died of natural causes on March 19, 2018, at her home in Salt Lake City. Miss Universe 1960 A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Bement was the second woman from Utah to be crowned Miss USA. She represented the United States in the Miss Universe 1960 pageant, broadcast from Miami Beach, Florida, where she was crowned the winner of the title by Miss Universe 1959, Akiko Kojima of Japan. The 1960 pageant was the first Miss Universe pageant to be televised nationwide. Miss Utah USA
The Miss Utah USA competition is the pageant who selects the representative for the state of Utah in the Miss USA pageant. From 2001 to 2007, the pageant was produced by Red Curtain Productions. Casting Crowns Productions directed the pageant from 2007 to 2018 under the directorship of former Miss Missouri USA Britt Boyse. Smoak Productions became the new director for Miss and Teen pageants in 2019 under executive director and Miss USA 1995 Shanna Moakler. Utah has been quite successful at Miss USA, with 20 placements as of 2009. Their most consistent period was in the 1950s and 1960s. Utah has produced one Miss USA in 1960 (Linda Bement, who went on to win the Miss Universe 1960 title). María Stella Márquez—Araneta (born 17 June 1937) ( née Márquez Zawadski), often styled as Madame Stella Márquez de Araneta, is a Colombian pageant director and beauty queen. She grew up in New York City then later migrated to Colombia, where she became a pageant titleholder. As Miss Colombia, she was crowned the first Miss International in 1960. She obtained her Filipino citizenship via naturalization in 1970. Norma Gladys Cappagli (20 September 1939 – 22 December 2020) was an Argentine model and beauty queen who won the 1960 Miss World contest, after being crowned Miss Argentina World 1960. She was the first model from Argentina to win the title. The pageant was held in London, United Kingdom. Her prize was £500 and a sports car. After her reign as Miss World ended, Cappagli worked as a model. In 1962, she recorded the song "Sexy World" with Armando Sciascia. Marlene Schmidt
Marlene Schmidt (born 11 November 1937) is a German control engineer, actress, TV host and beauty queen who won Miss Universe 1961. Born in Breslau, Germany and raised in East Germany, where she earned a master's degree in engineering, in 1960, she and her family fled to Stuttgart in West Germany, where she got a job as an electronics engineer. In 1961, she entered the state pageant of Baden-Württemberg in the hope of winning the car that was offered as prize. From there, she went on to represent her state in the national pageant in Baden-Baden, where she was crowned Miss Germany 1961. She then went on to win the Miss Universe pageant against 47 other participants. She was at that time the tenth consecutive German entrant to reach the semifinals of the event (then a record) and is the first (and to date only) German to be crowned Miss Universe.
