Water Management Areas
Water Management Areas (WMAs) are parts of South Africa that are managed by Catchment Management Agencies (CMAs). A CMA is established in terms of the National Water Act of 1998. (As of December 2020 only two CMAs have been established). The list should be complete, and in accordance with the definitions of the Department of Water Affairs. Apart from these WMAs they also have a number of Water Drainage Areas (some dams are only used for drainage, some seem to be used for both). Mokolo Dam
Mokolo Dam (previously known as the Hans Strijdom Dam) is a rock-fill type dam located on the Mokolo River, near Lephalale, Limpopo, South Africa. It was established in 1980. The Malmanies River and the Bulspruit River, two tributaries of the Mokolo, also enter the dam from its left side. The dam supplies water to Lephalale town. The dam mainly serves for municipal and industrial purposes and its hazard potentials has been ranked high (3). The dam supplies the Lephalale area, Grootgeluk coal mine, Matimba power station and part of the water requirements of Medupi power station. Luphephe River is a tributary of the Nwanedi River in Limpopo Province, South Africa. Its origin is in the Dzumbama/Tshitandani/Tshamulungwi area about 10 km from where Nwanedi River springs on the other side of the mountain. It flows to the north towards the Luphephe Dam.
