Limestone is an unincorporated community on the western border of Washington County and the eastern border of Greene County in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of Tennessee. Limestone is part of the Johnson City Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is a component of the Johnson City– Kingsport–Bristol, TN- VA Combined Statistical Area – commonly known as the " Tri-Cities" region. History Washington College Academy was founded in Limestone in 1780 by Rev. Samuel Doak, and was the first institution to bear the name of the first American president. David Crockett High School (Tennessee)
'David Crockett High School'' is a high school located in Jonesborough, Tennessee. It is one of two high schools in the Washington County School System and serves the southern part of the county. Its "rival" school is Daniel Boone High School, the other high school in Washington County, which serves the northern part of the county. The first graduating class of David Crockett High School was awarded diplomas in 1972. Enrollment as of 2005 was over 1,200 students. Students start from five elementary/middle schools: Jonesborough Elementary and Middle, West View, Lamar, Grandview, and South Central. The school colors are brown (or "buckskin") and old gold. 1916 World Series
The 1916 World Series was the championship series in Major League Baseball for the 1916 season. The 13th edition of the World Series, it matched the American League champion Boston Red Sox against the National League champion Brooklyn Robins. The Red Sox won the Series four games to one. Tilly Walker
Clarence William "Tilly" Walker (September 4, 1887 – September 21, 1959) was an American professional baseball player. After growing up in Limestone, Tennessee, and attending college locally at Washington College, he entered Major League Baseball (MLB). He was a left fielder and center fielder for the Washington Senators, St. Louis Browns, Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Athletics from 1911 to 1923. In 1918, he tied Babe Ruth for the home run crown that season. His power output increased for three seasons beginning in 1920. In 1922, he finished second in the league in home runs and he became one of five players to have reached 100 career home runs. He struggled in his final MLB season and was released by Philadelphia. After his MLB career, Walker played for several seasons in the minor leagues. He also managed a minor league team for one season and worked for the Tennessee Highway Patrol. David Crockett Birthplace State Park (previously called Davy Crockett Birthplace State Historic Park) is a state park in Greene County, Tennessee, United States. Situated along the Nolichucky River, the park consists of centered on the traditional birthplace of legendary Tennessee frontiersman, soldier, and politician Davy Crockett (1786-1836). The park includes a replica of Crockett's birth cabin, a museum, and a large campground. Davy Crockett grew up in the hills and river valleys of East Tennessee, where he gained a reputation for hunting and storytelling.
