Limerick Greyhound Stadium
Limerick Greyhound Stadium is a greyhound racing track located in south-west Limerick in Ireland. The stadium has a grandstand restaurant, hospitality suites, fast food facilities and a number of bars. Racing takes place on a Thursday (6:30pm) and Saturday (7.30pm). History In 2009 the old Markets Field Greyhound Stadium just off the Garryowen Road was closed to enable a new greyhound track to replace it. The new site chosen was the former horse racing course at Greenpark and in 2008 the area underwent significant change. When the stadium was completed to the tune of €18 million at Greenpark, Dock Road it impressed all within the industry. The official opening night was on 22 October 2010 and the stadium has a capacity attendance of 2,900 including a 190-seat grandstand restaurant called the Leger Restaurant after a major event held at the track. Markets Field
Markets Field is a stadium in Garryowen, Limerick, Ireland. It has been redeveloped since 5 June 2015 when it hosted a soccer match between Limerick F.C., Limerick FC and Drogheda United F.C., Drogheda United in the League of Ireland Premier Division. It has been graded a UEFA Category Two stadium with a capacity of around 4,500. The ground has hosted underage international fixtures in 2015 and 2021. Greenpark Racecourse
Greenpark Racecourse was a horse racing venue in Limerick, Ireland. In 1963 the venue was used by Limerick mayor Frances Condell to host a reception for U.S. President John Fitzgerald Kennedy on his visit to Ireland. At the venue in 1979, Irish runner John Treacy won gold at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships and a stage of Pope John Paul II's visit to Ireland was held here. Due to flooding problems, increasing traffic congestion and a limited fixture list it was decided in the mid 1990s to find a new venue for horse racing in Limerick. A suitable location was identified at Greenmount near Patrickswell and the land was purchased in 1996. The course at Greenpark closed in 1999 after 130 years of racing.
