Lily Alton-Triggs
Lily Alton-Triggs (born 29 September 1998) is an Australian representative rower. She has represented at underage and senior World Championships and was selected in the 2023 Australian senior squad winning a bronze medal in the Australian women's eight at the 2023 World Rowing Championships. Club and state rowing Alton-Triggs attended St Margaret's Anglican Girls' School Brisbane where she took up rowing. Her senior club rowing has been from the University of Queensland Boat Club. Alton-Triggs first made Queensland state selection in the 2015 women's youth eight which contested and placed second for the Bicentennial Cup at the Interstate Regatta within the Australian Rowing Championships. She made further Queensland youth eight appearances for a Bicentennial Cup victory in 2016 and in 2017 to second place. Rowing (sport)
Rowing, sometimes called crew in the United States, is the sport of racing boats using oars. It differs from paddling sports in that rowing oars are attached to the boat using oarlocks, while paddles are not connected to the boat. Rowing is divided into two disciplines: sculling and sweep rowing. In sculling, each rower holds two oars—one in each hand, while in sweep rowing each rower holds one oar with both hands. There are several boat classes in which athletes may compete, ranging from single sculls, occupied by one person, to shells with eight rowers and a coxswain, called eights. There are a wide variety of course types and formats of racing, but most elite and championship level racing is conducted on calm water courses long with several lanes marked using buoys. World Rowing Championships
The World Rowing Championships is an international rowing regatta organized by FISA (the International Rowing Federation). It is a week-long event held at the end of the northern hemisphere summer and in non-Olympic years is the highlight of the international rowing calendar. History The first event was held in Lucerne, Switzerland, in 1962. The event then was held every four years until 1974, when it became an annual competition. Also in 1974, Men's lightweight and Women's open weight events were added to the championships. Initially, Men's events were 2000 metres long and Women's events 1000 metres. World Junior Rowing Championships
The World Rowing Junior Championships is an international rowing regatta organized by FISA (the International Rowing Federation). A rower or coxswain shall be classified as a Junior until 31 December of the year in which he reaches the age of 18. After that date, he shall be classified as an Under 23 rower. During Olympic years it is held at the same location as the Senior World Rowing Championships. The first FISA Youth Regatta was held in 1967 and has been held every year since then, being raised to the status of FISA Junior Champs in 1970 and Junior World Champs in 1985. Many European countries send athletes not up to the standard for World Championships to the Coupe de la Jeunesse. Rowing World Cup
The World Rowing Cup is an international rowing competition organized by FISA (the International Rowing Federation). It began in 1997 and comprises three regattas (apart from in 2001 when there were four) held throughout early summer. In each event points are awarded to the top seven finishing boats and an overall winner determined after the last world cup regatta each year. During the regattas the current leader in each event must wear yellow bibs.
