Lillian Disney
Lillian Marie Disney ( Bounds; February 15, 1899December 16, 1997) was an American ink artist at the Disney Studios and the wife of Walt Disney from 1925 until his death in 1966. Born in Spalding, Idaho, Disney graduated from high school in Lapwai before moving to Lewiston to attend college. She left Idaho in 1923 to move to southern California, where she would meet future husband Walt while working as a secretary at Walt Disney Animation Studios. Lillian and Walt married on July 13, 1925, and had two daughters, Diane Marie Disney (1933–2013), their only biological child, and Sharon Mae Disney (1936–1993), who was adopted. Lillian and Walt had ten grandchildren, including seven by Diane and three by Sharon. During a train ride in 1928, Walt revealed to his wife a new animated character, whom he called "Mortimer Mouse". Spalding is an unincorporated community in the northwest United States, located in northern Nez Perce County, Idaho. Description The community is located east and upstream of Lewiston, on the Clearwater River, at the mouth of the Lapwai Valley. U.S. Route 95 runs through the community and has a junction with U.S. Route 12 just west of town. Spalding is part of the Lewiston, ID- WA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village was named after Reverend Henry Spalding, a missionary who taught the neighboring Nez Percé irrigation. ''Plane Crazy'' is a 1928 American animated short film directed by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks. The cartoon, released by the Walt Disney Studios, was the first Mickey Mouse film produced, and was originally a silent film. It was given a test screening to a theater audience on May 15, 1928, and an executive from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer saw the film, but failed to pick up a distributor. Later that year, Disney released Mickey's first sound cartoon, '' Steamboat Willie'', which was an enormous success. Apart from that, ''Plane Crazy'' was released again as a sound cartoon on March 17, 1929. It was the fourth Mickey film to be publicly released after ''Steamboat Willie'', ''The Gallopin' Gaucho'', and '' The Barn Dance'' (1929). It was incorporated in 1961 as the first degree-granting institution of higher learning in the US created specifically for students of both the visual and performing arts. The Walt Disney Concert Hall at 111 South Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles, California, is the fourth hall of the Los Angeles Music Center and was designed by Frank Gehry. It was opened on October 24, 2003.
