Indianerna (the Indians) are a Swedish motorcycle speedway team based in Kumla, Sweden. The club's official name is Kumla MSK and it was founded in 1936 which makes the club one of the oldest motorsport clubs in Sweden. Indianerna was one of the seven teams that competed in Sweden's first speedway league in 1948. The team has won the Swedish Speedway Team Championship two times, in 1990 and 1991. Karlstad Speedway is a motorcycle speedway club from Karlstad in Sweden. Stadium The city's stadium is the Kalvholmen Motorstadion, a 297-metre track, which is located in the southern Lamberget region of Karlstad. History Solkatterna The city's first speedway club was Solkatterna (the Sun Cats) which was founded in 1967 and first raced in the Swedish Speedway Team Championship during the 1967 Swedish speedway season in division 3 west. After a decade of racing in the third tier of Swedish speedway, the team's first honours came during the 1976 Swedish speedway season when they won the third division south. However, they failed to gain promotion after being beaten in the promotion play off, despite the best efforts of Lars Ericsson. A second opportunity arose in 1979, when the team won the division again but this time won the play off. The Eastbourne Eagles were a British speedway team, based at Arlington Stadium, near Eastbourne, England, that raced in the SGB Championship. History Speedway was initially introduced to Eastbourne in 1929. During their first league season they were the 1947 Speedway National League Division Three champions. Despite winning the title at their first attempt they were forced to close down due to a petrol ban enforced at their Arlington Stadium. They decided to transfer their team to Hastings Saxons and at the beginning of 1948 the Speedway Control Board granted a licence to Hastings to stage speedway. Eastbourne would not compete again in the league until they joined the Southern Area League in 1954. In 1957, they won the 1959 Southern Area League which was the second division league at the time but once again did not compete in league action for another decade. Allsvenskan (literally, "The National League") is the second tier in the league system of speedway in Sweden and currently comprises seven Swedish speedway teams. Until the introduction of the Elitserien in 1982 the Allsvenskan was the highest level of Swedish Speedway. Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). Competitors use this surface to slide their machines sideways, powersliding or broadsiding into the bends. On the straight sections of the track, the motorcycles reach speeds of up to .
