Lila Poonawalla
Lila Firoz Poonawalla (born 16 September 1944) is an Indian industrialist, philanthropist, humanitarian and the founder of ''Lila Poonawalla Foundation'', a non governmental organization promoting professional education among aspiring girls in India by providing scholarships and guidance. She is one of the pioneering Indian woman to secure a professional degree in Mechanical Engineering from College of Engineering Pune (COEP) and is a former chairperson of Alfa Laval India and TetraPak India. She was awarded the fourth highest civilian award of Padma Shri by the Government of India in 1989, the Order of the Polar Star by Carl XVI Gustaf, the King of Sweden, in 2003 and Royal Order of the Polar Star – Commander 1st Class (Royal Order of the Seraphim) in 2019. Ruston & Hornsby was an industrial equipment manufacturer in Lincoln, England founded in 1918. The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) is an Indian autonomous scientific society, operating under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. History CDAC was created in November 1987, initially as the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing Technology (C-DACT). In 1988, the US Government refused to sell India a Cray supercomputer due to concerns about India using it to develop nuclear weapons. In response, India started development of its own supercomputer and C-DAC was created as part of this programme. Dr Vijay Bhatkar was hired as the director of C-DAC. The project was given an initial run of three years and an initial funding of 30,00,00,000, the cost of a Cray supercomputer. University Grants Commission (UGC) is a statutory body set up by the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India in accordance to the UGC Act 1956 and is charged with coordination, determination and maintenance of standards of higher education in India.
