"Like a Refugee (I Won't Cry)" is a song by English singer and musician Gary Numan, which was released in 1994 as a non-album single under the name "Numan & Dadadang". It was written by Hugh Nicholson, and produced by Hugh and David Nicholson. "Like a Refugee (I Won't Cry)" reached No. 78 in the UK Singles Chart in May 1994. Background Hugh Nicholson wrote "Like a Refugee (I Won't Cry)" in 1993 about the plight of young Africans seeking refuge in Europe. Nicholson recalled in 2015, "I was moved to write the song in response to an article detailing the harrowing journey of young African stowaways seeking shelter in Europe from fear, hunger, and persecution." After Nicholson recorded a demo of the song, he approached Numan with the opportunity of providing his own vocals on the track. Gary Anthony James Webb (born 8 March 1958), known professionally as Gary Numan, is an English musician. He entered the music industry as frontman of the new wave band Tubeway Army. After releasing two albums with the band, he released his debut solo album '' The Pleasure Principle'' in 1979, topping the UK Albums Chart. While his commercial popularity peaked in the late 1970s and early 1980s with hits including "Are 'Friends' Electric?" and "Cars" (both of which reached number one on the UK Singles Chart), Numan maintains a cult following. He has sold over 10 million records. Numan faced intense hostility from critics and fellow musicians in his early career, but has since come to be regarded as a pioneer of electronic music. "Cars" is the debut solo single by English musician Gary Numan. It was released on 21 August 1979 and is from his debut studio album, '' The Pleasure Principle''. The song reached the top of the charts in several countries and was considered one of the first big new wave hits. Today, Numan is considered as an early pioneer of the genre. The song was the first release credited solely to Gary Numan after he dropped the band name Tubeway Army, under which he had released four singles and two LPs, including the number one UK hit "Are 'Friends' Electric?", and its parent album, ''Replicas''. The Official Charts (legal name: The Official UK Charts Company Limited) is a British inter-professional organization that compiles various "official" record charts in the United Kingdom, Ireland and France. In the United Kingdom, its charts include ones for singles, albums and films, with the data compiled from a mixture of downloads, purchases (of physical media) and streaming. Radio Heart (band)
Radio Heart was a music project by Scottish brothers Hugh and David Nicholson, formerly of Blue, who are best known for their collaboration with Gary Numan in 1987. History Radio Heart was formed as a music project by brothers Hugh and David Nicholson as a vehicle for a number of songs Hugh Nicholson had written. Gary Numan became involved with Radio Heart through the Nicholson's brother, Matt Nicholson, who at the time formed part of the management team for Numan's label Numa Records, alongside Numan and his father Tony Webb. In 1986, as Numa Records was in the process of being wound up, Matt Nicholson suggested Numan provide vocals on the song "Radio Heart". Once the Nicholson brothers had recorded most of the backing track, Ade Orange provided keyboards and Numan then contributed vocals.
