''Like Silver, Like Song'' is a studio album by American jazz saxophonist Jane Ira Bloom, which was recorded in 2004 and released on April 15, 2005, by Artistshare label. Reception Ken Dryden of AllMusic wrote, "Jane Ira Bloom has been one of the more adventurous soprano saxophonists who straddles the edge of straight-ahead jazz without ever losing sight of great melody. Like Silver, Like Song is a quartet session... that should appeal to mainstream fans who are usually suspicious of the presence of electronic effects." Jane Ira Bloom
Jane Ira Bloom (born January 12, 1955) is an American jazz soprano saxophonist and composer. Early years Bloom was born in Boston, Massachusetts, to Joel and Evelyn Bloom. She began as a pianist and drummer, later switching to the alto saxophone, and eventually settling on the soprano saxophone as her primary instrument. She first began playing the saxophone at age 9, studying with woodwind virtuoso Joseph Viola from 1968–1979, and studying music at Yale University from which she received a liberal arts degree and a master's degree in music (1977). Following Yale, Bloom relocated to New York City. She founded Outline Records while in New Haven and released several recordings under that label. Bobby Previte (born July 16, 1951 in Niagara Falls, New York) is a drummer, composer, and bandleader. He earned a degree in economics from the University at Buffalo, where he also studied percussion. He moved to New York City in 1979 and began professional relationships with John Zorn, Wayne Horvitz, and Elliott Sharp. Composer While Previte is a talented drummer he has also received critical acclaim for his "exceptional abilities as a composer and orchestrator." Mark Dresser (born September 26, 1952) is an American double bass player and composer. Career Dresser was born in Los Angeles, California, United States. In the 1970s, he was a member of Black Music Infinity led by Stanley Crouch and performed with the San Diego Symphony. I Have Dreamed (song)
"I Have Dreamed" is a show tune from the 1951 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, ''The King and I''. In the original Broadway production it was sung by Doretta Morrow and Larry Douglas. It has since become a standard, with many artists recording the song. Background In the show, the characters of Lun Tha and Tuptim sing of how they have dreamt of their true love blossoming in freedom, as they prepare to escape from the King's palace. This is in contrast to the subdued mood of the song "We Kiss in a Shadow", when they fear that the King will learn of their love. "I Have Dreamed" was added to the score of ''The King and I'' during its out-of-town tryout run. The song was recorded for the soundtrack of the 1956 film version of ''The King and I'', but, ultimately, no footage was shot to feature it. Richard Charles Rodgers (June 28, 1902 – December 30, 1979) was an American Musical composition, composer who worked primarily in musical theater. Oscar Greeley Clendenning Hammerstein II (; July 12, 1895 – August 23, 1960) was an American lyricist, librettist, theatrical producer, and (usually uncredited) director in the musical theater for almost 40 years.
