Ligne Roset is a French modern furniture company that has over 200 stores and more than 1,000 retail distributors worldwide. The company was founded by Antoine Roset in 1860 in Montagnieu, France as a small business manufacturing bentwood walking sticks. In 1936, the company started manufacturing upholstered furniture and presently they design and manufacture household furniture, lighting, accessories, and textiles from a team of 50 European designers. Among Ligne Roset's most recognized pieces is the Togo line of seating, designed bMichel Ducaroyin 1973. It features ergonomic designs with five densities of foam combined to make the frame, and quilted covers. Modern Furniture
Modern furniture refers to furniture produced from the late 19th century through the present that is influenced by modernism. Post-World War II ideals of cutting excess, commodification, and practicality of materials in design heavily influenced the aesthetic of the furniture. It was a tremendous departure from all furniture design that had gone before it. There was an opposition to the decorative arts, which included Art Nouveau, Neoclassical, and Victorian styles. Dark or gilded carved wood and richly patterned fabrics gave way to the glittering simplicity and geometry of polished metal. The forms of furniture evolved from visually heavy to visually light. This shift from decorative to minimalist principles of design can be attributed to the introduction of new technology, changes in philosophy, and the influences of the principles of architecture. Inga Sempé
Inga Sempé (born 1968) is a French designer and constructor of technical items, who designs furniture, lamps and other design objects for manufacturers like Ligne Roset, Alessi (Italian company), Alessi und Baccarat (company), Baccarat. She was awarded the Red Dot Design Award in 2007. Life Inga Sempé was born in 1968 as daughter of Mette Ivers, a Danish graphic artist and painter and the well-known French graphic artist Jean-Jacques Sempé. Modernism
Modernism is both a philosophy, philosophical and arts movement that arose from broad transformations in Western world, Western society during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
