Willis Kent
Willis Kent (June 8, 1878, Michigan – March 11, 1966, Los Angeles, California) was an independent American film producer, active from 1928 to 1958 under at least three different corporate names. Willis Kent Productions was active during the 1930s. Its films, about 40 in all, consisted mostly of low-budget B-westerns, many of which starred short-lived cowboy star and former football player Lafayette "Reb" Russell, along with a few melodramatic police and mystery films. During the 30s, and well into the 1940s, Kent also produced several cheap, sensationalist exploitation features under the banner of Real Life Dramas. That company's first release, '' The Pace That Kills'' (1928), was about innocent young teens being lured into the netherworld of cocaine addiction. Kent remade it, using the same title and same director, adapted with sound, in 1935. Lew Meehan
James Lew Meehan (September 7, 1890 – August 10, 1951) was an American film actor. Meehan appeared in more than 200 films between 1921 and 1947. He was often the main villain in silent Westerns, but in sound films he was usually an "anonymous henchman". Meehan was born in Minnesota and died in Los Angeles, California. Meehan's daughter, Jean Stratton, was an actress. Victor Adamson
Albert Victor Adamson (January 4, 1890 – November 9, 1972) was a New Zealand director, producer, screenwriter, and actor most famous for directing and starring in B and Z grade westerns in the early days of motion pictures. Adamson often used pseudonyms to credit himself, most often using the name Denver Dixon. His son, Al Adamson, would later follow his father in producing B movies during the 1960s and 1970s. Biography Adamson was born January 4, 1890, in Auckland, New Zealand. In the late 1910s, he moved to the United States with a home-produced movie and found a distributor. He continued making his own movies despite a lack of early success with his films. Adamson began producing films around 1920. He called his production company Art Mix Productions and named himself the star. Adamson, however, found himself increasingly drawn to work behind the camera. Artie Ortego
Artie A. Ortego (February 9, 1890 – July 24, 1960) was an American actor. He appeared in more than 240 films between 1912 and 1955. Ortego portrayed cowboys, henchmen and American Indians in a large number of westerns and performed horse riding stunts. He was also a stunt double for Ramón Novarro in '' The Barbarian'' (1933), which is set in Cairo and also stars Myrna Loy. Biography A full-blooded Mission Indian, Ortego was born in San Jose, California, the son of Benjamin Ortega and Rosa Gardnos. His siblings were Mary Ortega and Ben Ortega. In 1900, the family lived at 753 Orchard Street in San Jose. His father was a butcher. Olin Caldwell Francis (September 13, 1891 Mooreville, Mississippi - June 30, 1952 Hollywood, California) was an American actor. Francis graduated in engineering from the University of Mississippi and acted on stage before he went to Hollywood. He was one of the founders of the Screen Actors Guild. He performed in silent films, including melodramas, romances and Westerns. He starred in a few films early in his career, but he more frequently had smaller parts such as a deputy sheriff, a henchman, or a member of a posse. Clarence Oliver Drake (May 28, 1903 – August 19, 1991) was an American film/television director, screenwriter, producer and actor who was most active in the Western genre. Though Drake began his career as an actor, he is best known as a prolific screenwriter and director of low-budget Western films (sometimes referred to as B-Westerns). William McCall (actor)
William McCall (May 19, 1870 – January 10, 1938), was an American film actor. He appeared in more than 190 films between 1918 and 1938. He was born in Delavan, Illinois, and died in Hollywood, California. McCall acted on stage before he began working in film for Vitagraph. During his early film activity he was credited as Billy McCall, and he performed primarily in comic roles in farces, including ''Huns and Hyphens'' (1918) and ''Frauds and Frenzies'' (1918). Later, as William McCall, he acted in serials and Westerns. He continued in films through the introduction of sound, ending his career in 1937.
