Liggett Select is an American brand of cigarettes, currently owned and manufactured by the Liggett Group, based in Mebane, North Carolina. History Liggett Select was launched in 1999 as a discount brand. Liggett Select is the company's top seller. In 2011, Liggett Vector Brands announced they would increase the price by 8 cents of their deep-discount brands: Liggett Select, Eve and Grand Prix. In 2017, Liggett Select got a new pack design for all its variants. Liggett Group
Liggett Group ( ), formerly known as Liggett & Myers Tobacco Company, is the fourth largest tobacco company in the United States. Its headquarters are located in Durham, North Carolina, though its manufacturing facility is 30 miles to the west in Mebane, North Carolina. The company is a subsidiary of holding company Vector Group. History John Edmund Liggett's grandfather, Christopher Foulks, was the owner of a snuff mill in New Egypt, New Jersey. During the War of 1812 the mill was razed by British soldiers. Foulks moved west around 1820 and opened a new snuff shop in Belleville, Illinois, in 1822. In 1833 he moved his tobacco business to St. Louis, Missouri, where in 1844–1847 (dates uncertain) John Edmund Liggett entered his grandfather's business. By 1858, Foulks's company was known as J. E. Mebane, North Carolina
Mebane is a city located mostly in Alamance County, North Carolina, United States, and partly in Orange County. The town was named for Alexander Mebane, an American Revolutionary War general and member of the U.S. Congress. It was incorporated as "Mebanesville" in 1881, and in 1883 the name was changed to "Mebane". It was incorporated as a city in 1987. The population as of the 2020 census was 17,768. Mebane is one of the fastest-growing municipalities in North Carolina. Mebane straddles the Research Triangle and Piedmont Triad Regions of North Carolina. The bulk of the city is in Alamance County, which comprises the Burlington Metropolitan Statistical Area, itself a component of the Greensboro-Winston-Salem- High Point Combined Statistical Area. Eve Cigarettes is an American brand of cigarettes, currently owned and manufactured by the Liggett Group in the United States. Outside of the U.S, Philip Morris International is the manufacturer of the brand. History Eve was launched in 1971 as competition for rival Philip Morris corporation's Virginia Slims as a cigarette targeted at the growing women's market. Virginia Slims, a brand marketed specifically to women, were aimed at women who identified themselves as liberated, independent, and modern; Eves were aimed at women content to be feminine. In the 20th century, both the Eve cigarettes themselves and the packages containing them featured a floral design, prompting some ads to describe the cigarette as having ''"Flowers on the outside, flavor on the inside."''
