Liga Femenina 2 De Baloncesto
Liga Femenina 2 is the second division of the women's league of basketball in Spain. It was founded in 2001. Competition format Teams in this league are divided into two groups by geographical criteria. The top four teams of each one, qualify to the promotion playoffs. In these playoffs, the qualified teams are divided into two groups of four teams, where the two top teams qualify to the Finals. The two winners of the finals promote to Liga Femenina. Until 2005, the promotion playoff consisted in best-of-three games series between the top four teams of each group. Spanish Basketball League System
The Spanish basketball league system is a series of connected competitions for professional basketball clubs in Spain. The system has a hierarchical format with a promotion and relegation system between competitions at different levels. Men There are currently four different nation-wide leagues in the system - the 1st tier Liga ACB, the 2nd tier LEB Oro, the 3rd tier LEB Plata and the 4th tier Liga EBA. Liga ACB is organized by the ''Asociación de Clubs de Baloncesto'' (Basketball Clubs Association), which is a private organization. LEB leagues and Liga EBA are organized by the Spanish Basketball Federation while the lower tiers are organized by the regional federations. Araski AES, also known as Kutxabank Araski for sponsorship reasons, is a women's basketball team based in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Basque Country (autonomous community), Basque Country, Spain. The team currently plays in league Liga Femenina de Baloncesto. History In September 2010, Abaroa and UPV Álava merged for founding the Araski Association with the aim to develop the women's basketball. Club Deportivo CREF is a women's basketball team based in Madrid that currently plays in the Spanish Liga Femenina de Baloncesto. History 1960–1980: CREFF Colegios Reunidos de Educación Física Femenina de Madrid was founded in 1960 by the Sección Femenina of the Movimiento Nacional, during the Francoism. Its women's basketball team dominated the early stages of the Spanish League, winning seven titles between 1964 and 1971, and representing Spain in the FIBA European Cup with few success. Back then the team was considered the Real Madrid of women's basketball, and it shared arena with Real Madrid's male basketball team.
