''Life Is Wonderful'' ( nl, Het leven is vurrukkulluk) is a 2018 Dutch romantic comedy film directed by Frans Weisz. It was based on the book of the same name by Remco Campert, written in 1961. In July 2018, it was one of nine films shortlisted to be the Dutch entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 91st Academy Awards, but it was not selected. Frans Weisz
Frans Weisz (born 23 July 1938) is a Dutch film director. He has directed more than 30 films since 1964. His 1975 film '' Red Sien'' was entered into the 9th Moscow International Film Festival. His film '' Havinck'' was screened in the Un Certain Regard section the 1988 Cannes Film Festival. His 1993 film '' The Betrayed'' was entered into the 43rd Berlin International Film Festival. Weisz is Jewish. During the war he was hiding with his parents on a farm in Limburg. They were discovered, Frans managed to escape but his parents were captured. They were transported to Auschwitz concentration camp, his mother survived, his father did not. Remco Campert (28 July 1929 – 4 July 2022) was a Dutch author, poet and columnist. Early years Remco Wouter Campert was born in The Hague, son of writer and poet Jan Campert, author of the poem ''De achttien dooden'', and actress Joekie Broedelet. His parents separated when he was three years old, causing him to sometimes live with either of his parents and sometimes his grandparents, depending on situations and circumstances. His father died in 1943 in a Nazi concentration camp, Neuengamme. Remco then went to live with his mother. They returned to Amsterdam after World War II in 1945, after having spent the three preceding years in the town of Epe.
