Koninklijke Lierse Sportkring (), often simply known as Lierse, was a Belgium, Belgian professional association football, football club from the city of Lier, Belgium, Lier in the Antwerp (province), Antwerp province. Lierse have won four championship titles and two Belgian Cups. Lierse was one of the six Belgian clubs to have played in the UEFA Champions League group stage, the other being R.S.C. Anderlecht, Anderlecht, Club Brugge KV, Club Brugge, K.R.C. Genk, Genk, Standard Liège and KAA Gent. K. Lyra-Lierse (full official name at the Royal Belgian Football Association: K. Lyra-Lierse Berlaar), formerly known as K. Lyra T.S.V., is a Belgian association football club team from Lier that was created in 1972 to continue the former team Koninklijke Lyra that merged in the same year with another team (Koninklijke Lierse Sportkring). The team colours are yellow-black at home and red-white for away games. In 2018, K. Lierse S.K. went bankrupt and negotiations between Lyra and fans of Lierse took place to create a club where the soul and spirit of both Lierse and Lyra would be represented. Paul Van Himst (born 2 October 1943) is a Belgian former football player and a football manager who played as a forward, most notably for R.S.C. Anderlecht. Career Van Himst was nicknamed ''Polle Gazon'' (''Polle'' is Paul in Brussels dialect, and ''Gazon'' means lawn in Dutch and French) due to the large number of fouls committed on him. In 1964, he played in the Belgium-Netherlands match alongside 10 Anderlecht players after the substitution of goalkeeper Delhasse by Jean-Marie Trappeniers. Van Himst won the Belgian championship eight times, all of them with Anderlecht, the club for which he played his first professional season in 1959–60. Bernard Voorhoof (10 May 1910 – 18 February 1974) was a Belgian footballer, for 34 years the Belgium national team top scorer with 30 goals in 61 matches. He was joined by Paul Van Himst in 1972 who needed 81 matches to score the same number of goals. Both are now surpassed by Romelu Lukaku and Eden Hazard. Career He started his career at Lierse SK and stayed there for 21 years. With Lierse, he scored 350 goals in 529 matches and won 2 Belgian First Division Titles and a third unofficial title in the shortened 1940−41 season. He also played one season with R.R.F.C.
