Liberté Chérie
Liberté chérie (French for "Cherished Liberty") was a Masonic Lodge founded in 1943 by Belgian Resistance fighters and other political prisoners at Esterwegen concentration camp. It was one of the few lodges of Freemasons founded within a Nazi concentration camp during the Second World War.Together with the lodges "Les Frères captifs d' Allach", which register is now located at the Grand Orient of France museum, and L'Obstinée, in Oflag X-D). The Lodge On November 15, 1943, seven Belgian Freemasons and resistance fighters founded the Masonic Lodge ''Loge Liberté chérie'' (French: Cherished Liberty Lodge) inside Hut 6 of Emslandlager VII (Esterwegen). ''Nacht und Nebel'' (German: ), meaning Night and Fog, was a directive issued by Adolf Hitler on 7 December 1941 targeting political activists and resistance "helpers" in the territories occupied by Nazi Germany during World War II, who were to be imprisoned, murdered, or made to disappear, while the family and the population remained uncertain as to the fate or whereabouts of the alleged offender against the Nazi occupation power.
