Liberalism In South Korea
This article gives an overview of Liberalism () in South Korea. It is limited to liberal parties with substantial support, mainly proven by having had a representation in parliament. Historically, the liberal movement in the South Korean began as a 'moderate right-wing' movement against far-right dictatorship, but in the current political structure of the South Korea in the 2020s, it has become a 'moderate left-wing' against the right-wing conservative movement. The Democratic Party of Korea is a "centrist-liberal" party and is considered "centre-left" party, also, the Justice Party is considered a "centre-left" or "leftist-liberal" party. There are various political positions within South Korean liberals, but they tend to be mostly common in diplomacy: promoting harmony with North Korea, justice against Japan, and, wherever possible, autonomy from great power interference, including that of Washington. The Hankyoreh
''The Hankyoreh'' (, literally "The Korean Nation" or "One Nation") is a centre-left liberal daily newspaper in South Korea. It was established in 1988 after widespread purges forced out dissident journalists, and was envisioned as an alternative to existing newspapers, which were regarded as unduly influenced by the authoritarian government at the time. When it launched, it claimed to be "the first newspaper in the world truly independent of political power and large capital." As of 2016, it has been voted as the most trusted news organization by Korean journalists for nine consecutive years but also it is the least influential news outlet by the survey. ''The Diplomat'' is an international online news magazine covering politics, society, and culture in the Indo-Pacific region. It is based in Washington, D.C. United Liberal Democrats
The United Liberal Democrats ( ko, 자유민주연합, Yayuminjuyeonhab, Liberal Democratic Union, ULD) was a right-wing conservative political party in South Korea, whose support mostly came from the North Chungcheong and South Chungcheong regions. The short Korean name is Jaminryeon ( ko, 자민련, , Liberal Union; ULD). The Party was in a government coalition with Kim Dae-jung's Democratic Party from 1998 to 2001. Liberal Party (South Korea)
The Liberal Party () was a far-right corporatist and anti-communist political party in South Korea established in 1951 by Syngman Rhee. History As the 1952 presidential elections neared, Rhee made public his intention to organize a party during his August 15 Speech in 1951. Rhee called Yi Bum-seok, then the ambassador in China, and charged him with creating the Liberal Party. OhmyNews (Hangul: 오마이뉴스) is a South Korean online news website with the motto "Every Citizen is a Reporter". It was founded by Oh Yeon Ho on February 22, 2000. It is the first news website in Korea to accept, edit and publish articles from its readers, in an open source style of news reporting. About 20% of the site's content is written by the 55-person staff, while most of the articles are written by other freelance contributors who are mostly ordinary citizens. Political position OhmyNews is a liberal and progressive media. OhmyNews is a media that shows liberal-leaning bias, unlike the somewhat moderate liberal Hankyoreh and Kyunghyang.
