The Italian Liberal Party ( it, Partito Liberale Italiano; PLI) is a minor liberal political party in Italy, which considers itself to be the successor of the original Italian Liberal Party, the Italian main centre-right liberal party that was active in different capacities from 1922 to 1994. Originally named Liberal Party (''Partito Liberale''), the new PLI is not represented in the Italian Parliament. The PLI, which is the heir of the liberal currents of both the Historical Right and the Historical Left, was a minor party after World War II, but also a frequent junior party in government, especially since 1979. Pact Of Liberal Democrats
The Pact of Liberal Democrats (''Patto dei Liberaldemocratici''), also called Segni-Scognamiglio Pact (''Patto Segni-Scognamiglio''), was a liberal and Christian-democratic Italian political party. It was conceived in 2003 by Mario Segni, Carlo Scognamiglio Pasini (ex- PLI, ex- PL, ex- FI, ex- UDR, ex- UpR, ex- FdL and ex- DE) and Michele Cossa (leader of the Sardinian Reformers), as a centrist party alternative to the centre-left. The party is aimed at changing Italian political system and especially Italian centre-right, which is perceived by its leaders as populist under the leadership of Silvio Berlusconi. 2006 Italian General Election
The 2006 Italian general election was held on 9 and 10 April 2006. Romano Prodi, leader of the centre-left coalition The Union, narrowly defeated the incumbent Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, leader of the centre-right coalition House of Freedoms. Initial exit polls suggested a victory for Prodi, but the results narrowed as the count progressed. On 11 April 2006, Prodi declared victory; Berlusconi never conceded defeat and an ensuing dispute formed. Preliminary results showed The Union leading the House of Freedoms in the Chamber of Deputies, with 340 seats to 277, thanks to obtaining a majority bonus (actual votes were distributed 49.81% to 49.74%). The House of Freedoms ( it, Casa delle Libertà, CdL) was a major centre-right political and electoral alliance in Italy, led by Silvio Berlusconi. History The CdL was the successor of the Pole of Freedoms/Pole of Good Government and the Pole for Freedoms. Egidio Sterpa
Egidio Sterpa (22 September 1926 – 1 July 2010) was an Italian journalist and politician. Biography Journalistic career In 1948, Sterpa founded, along with Pino Rauti and Enzo Erra, ''La Sfida'' (''The Challenge''), the political-cultural magazine of the youth of the Italian Social Movement. The magazine came out on newsstands from 1948 to 1950. In June 1951, Sterpa was arrested and accused of fascist apology; he was released the following month. He began his professional career in journalism as reporter for Il Tempo, and in 1951, at the age of 25, became editor-in-chief. He later began editor-in-chief for Il Giornale d'Italia until 1958, when he started working for Corriere della Sera. He left the Corriere in 1972, when it began supporting the entry of the Italian Communist Party in the Italian government.
