Liam Ó Tuama
William Twomey (1931 – 14 August 2019), known as Liam Ó Tuama, was an Irish hurler and Gaelic footballer, Gaelic Athletic Association administrator and selector. Playing career Ó Tuama played hurling with Glen Rovers and Gaelic football with sister club St. Nicholas'. He was a member of the Glen team that won the Cork JHC title in 1950 before later winning four Cork IHC titles in five seasons. Ó Tuama was goalkeeper on the Cork junior hurling team that beat Warwickshire in the 1955 All-Ireland junior final. Management career Ó Tuama held a number of administrative positions with the Glen Rovers club, including secretary, chairman and county board delegate. He was a selector with the Cork senior hurling team that won the 1990 All-Ireland SHC. Blackpool, Cork
Blackpool () is a suburb of Cork (city), Cork city in County Cork, Ireland. It is situated in the north of the city, on the N20 road to Mallow, County Cork, Mallow. Blackpool is part of the Cork North-Central (Dáil constituency), Cork North Central Dáil constituency. History The first official reference to Blackpool in Cork City as an urban centre was in relation to the building of a Guard House in 1734 mentioned in the Cork Corporation minute book. 1990 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship
The 1990 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was the 104th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county hurling tournament. The draw for the 1990 provincial fixtures took place in November 1989. The championship began on 13 May 1990 and ended on 2 September 1990. Tipperary were the defending champions but were defeated by Cork in the Munster final. London qualified for the championship for the first time in two years. On 2 September 1990, Cork won the championship following a 5–15 to 2–21 defeat of Galway in the All-Ireland final. This was their 27th All-Ireland title, their first in four championship seasons. Dual Players
Dual player or dual star is a term used in Hiberno-English to describe someone who competes in multiple sports — for example, in Victorian Ireland, cricket and hurling. The term today in Gaelic games typically describes a male player who plays both Gaelic football and hurling or, if a female player, a player of ladies' Gaelic football and camogie. The player does not necessarily have to play at the same standard in both sports. The number of dual stars at county level has decreased recently due to the increasing demands placed upon the best players of both sports. The Munster GAA Hurling Senior Championship, known simply as the Munster Championship, is an annual Inter county, inter-county hurling competition organised by the Munster GAA, Munster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county hurling competition in Ireland, and has been contested every year except one since 1887. The final, currently held on the third Sunday in August, is the culmination of a series of games played during July and August, with the winning team receiving the Liam MacCarthy Cup. The Munster Junior Hurling Championship is a junior "knockout" competition in the game of Hurling played in the province of Munster in Ireland. The series of games are organised by the Munster Council. The winners of the Munster Junior Hurling Championship each year progress to play the other provincial champions for a chance to win the All-Ireland Junior Hurling Championship. Generally, the strong hurling counties have fielded their second team in this competition. In recent years though, they have participated in the Munster Intermediate Hurling Championship instead. The 1950 All-Ireland Junior Hurling Championship was the 29th staging of the All-Ireland Junior Championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1912. The championship began on 2 April 1950 and ended on 15 October 1950. London entered the championship as the defending champions. All-Ireland Junior Hurling Championship
The All-Ireland Junior Hurling Championship was a hurling competition organized by the Gaelic Athletic Association in Ireland. The competition was originally contested by the second teams of the strong counties, and the first teams of the weaker counties. In the years from 1961 to 1973 and from 1997 until now, the strong counties have competed for the All-Ireland Intermediate Hurling Championship instead. The competition was then restricted to the weaker counties. The competition was discontinued after 2004 as these counties now compete for the Nicky Rackard Cup instead. From 1974 to 1982, the original format of the competition was abandoned, and the competition was incorporated in Division 3 of the National Hurling League.
