Liam Stevenson
Liam Stevenson is a Scottish campaigner who founded the Time for Inclusive Education (TIE) campaigning group and charity. His work focuses on homophobia in schools and LGBT education. Time For Inclusive Education
Time for Inclusive Education (TIE) is a charity and which has a stated aim of addressing prejudice and bullying of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender ( LGBT) young people with education in Scotland’s schools. The charity is overseen by a Board, chaired by Rhiannon Spear and Tiffany Kane, and delivers services in schools across Scotland. Beginning its campaign, TIE initially put their case to the public petitions committee of the Scottish Parliament, however, despite finding some support their petition was rejected in January 2016. They were successful in achieving their aims in 2018 when The Scottish Government announced its intention to introduce LGBT-inclusive education in all state schools. LGBT Sex Education
LGBT sex education is a sex education program within a school, university, or community center that addresses prominent sexual health topics among LGBT groups. Within schools, topics on LGBT sexual health are usually integrated into the general sex education courses. There is some debate about whether LGBT sex education should be included in sex education curricula. Advocates of LGBT sex education say that the inclusion of LGBT issues into sex education programs would reduce homophobic bullying, improve the health of LGBT people, and decrease instances of problems common in LGBT students such as depression and low self-esteem; opponents argue that LGBT sex education programs would force a political point of view on students, misuse tax money, and disrespect religious values. 2014 Scottish Independence Referendum
A referendum on Scottish independence from the United Kingdom was held in Scotland on 18 September 2014. The referendum question was, "Should Scotland be an independent country?", which voters answered with "Yes" or "No". The "No" side won with 2,001,926 (55.3%) voting against independence and 1,617,989 (44.7%) voting in favour. The turnout of 84.6% was the highest recorded for an election or referendum in the United Kingdom since the January 1910 general election, which was held before the introduction of universal suffrage. The Scottish Independence Referendum Act 2013 set out the arrangements for the referendum and was passed by the Scottish Parliament in November 2013, following an agreement between the devolved Scottish government and the Government of the United Kingdom. Jordan Daly
Jordan Daly is a Scottish campaigner and co founder of the Time for Inclusive Education (TIE) charity. His activity focuses mainly on homophobic bullying in schools and LGBT education. He was awarded LGBT Role Model of the Year at the 2017 Icon Awards, named as one of the "top ten biggest players in Scottish education" by ''TES'' magazine and Young Scot of the Year 2018 at the Young Scot Awards. Background Daly is gay and has spoken openly about mental health and his suicidal thoughts during his teenage years as a consequence of experiencing homophobia at school.
