Liam McCarthy (hurler)
Liam McCarthy (born 2 March 1963) is an Irish former hurler. At club level he played with Piltown and was also a member of the Kilkenny senior hurling team. He usually lined out in the forwards. Career McCarthy first came to prominence at juvenile and underage levels with the Piltown club before quickly joining the club's top adult team. He enjoyed his first success in 1981 when Piltown won the County Junior Championship before claiming a second junior title in 1996. McCarthy first appeared on the inter-county scene as part of the Kilkenny team that won the All-Ireland Minor Championship title in 1981. He later won an All-Ireland Under-21 Championship title in 1984 as well as an All-Ireland Junior Championship title. McCarthy's underage successes saw him drafted onto the Kilkenny senior hurling team in 1985, however, injury kept him off the team the following year. Piltown GAA
Piltown GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Piltown, County Kilkenny, Ireland. A Piltown GAA club was founded in 1887. Several versions existed until the modern club founded in 1953 following the advent of Parish Rule in Kilkenny. Piltown fields teams in Hurling, Gaelic Football, Camogie and Ladies' Gaelic Football at all ages from Under-8 to adult in each code. History Piltown GAA was formed in 1887, and went through many amalgamations until Parish Rule was introduced in the 1950s. The modern club was formed in 1953. The original grounds consisting of about 5 acres were purchased from the Land Commission on 1 November 1945 The original trustees were Canon Philip Comerford PP, Patrick Power MCC (Piltown) and Richard Keating (Clonmore). The Leinster Council is a provincial council of the Gaelic Athletic Association sports of hurling, Gaelic football, camogie, rounders and handball in the province of Leinster. 1981 All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship
The 1981 All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship was the 51st staging of the All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1928. Tipperary entered the championship as the defending champions, however, they were beaten by Clare in the Munster final. On 6 September 1981 Kilkenny won the championship following a 1-20 to 3-9 defeat of Galway in the All-Ireland final. The 1982 All-Ireland Under-21 Hurling Championship was the 19th staging of the All-Ireland Under-21 Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1964. The championship began on 23 April 1982 and ended on 12 September 1982. Tipperary GAA, Tipperary entered the championship as the 1981 All-Ireland Under-21 Hurling Championship, defending champions, however, they were beaten by Limerick GAA, Limerick in the Munster semi-final. On 12 September 1982, Cork GAA, Cork won the championship following a 0-12 to 0-11 defeat of Galway GAA, Galway in the All-Ireland final. Leinster Under-21 Hurling Championship
The Leinster GAA Hurling All-Ireland Under-20 Championship known simply as the Leinster Under-20 Championship, is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Leinster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county hurling competition for male players between the ages of 17 and 20 in the province of Leinster. The championship was contested as the Leinster Under-21 Championship between 1964 and 2018 before changing to an under-20 age category from 2019. It is sponsored by Bord Gáis Energy. The series of games are played during the summer months with the Leinster final currently being played in July. The prize for the winning team is the Seán Robbins Cup. The championship has always been played on a straight knock-out basis whereby once a team loses they are eliminated from the series. Leinster Junior Hurling Championship
The Leinster Junior Hurling Championship is a junior "knockout" competition in the game of Hurling played in the province of Leinster in Ireland. The series of games are organised by the Leinster Council. The winners of the Leinster Junior Hurling Championship each year progress to play the other provincial champions for a chance to win the All-Ireland Junior Hurling Championship. Generally, the strong hurling counties have fielded their second team in this competition. In recent years though, they have participated in the Leinster Intermediate Hurling Championship instead. Since 2005, the competition has been suspended, with the counties participating in the Christy Ring Cup or Nicky Rackard Cup instead. The 1991 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was the 105th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county hurling tournament. The championship began on 19 May 1991 and ended on 1 September 1991. Cork were the defending champions but were defeated by Tipperary in the Munster final replay. Westmeath qualified for the All-Ireland quarter-final as winners of the B championship.
