Lia Looveer
Lia Looveer BEM (née Saarepera; 5 October 1920 – 8 November 2006) was an Estonian émigré political activist in Australia. Biography Lia Saarepera was born in Narva, and the family then moved to Tallinn. As her mother was active in the Young Women's Christian Association, Lia become involved with the YWCA in a very early age. Lia Saarepera graduated from the E. Lenderi Tütarlaste Gümnaasium (E. Lender Girls High School in Tallinn) in 1938 and then studied law at the University of Tartu from 19381943. She became engaged to Robert Tasso on 31 December 1940, but he was arrested by the NKVD and deported to Siberia for fifteen years. She worked for the state broadcasting company at Tallinn from 1941 to 1944. In the autumn of 1944, Lia Looveer escaped to Danzig (Gdańsk) in Germany, where she married Leonid Looveer (Looberg) in September. Narva, russian: Нарва is a municipality and city in Estonia. It is located in Ida-Viru County, Ida-Viru county, at the Extreme points of Estonia, eastern extreme point of Estonia, on the west bank of the Narva (river), Narva river which forms the Estonia–Russia border, Estonia–Russia international border. ''Meie Kodu'' (English: ''Our Home'') is an Estonian language newspaper published in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, from 1949. History ''Meie Kodu'' was first published on August 14, 1949, by Estonian immigrants. The Estonian community in Australia in 1949 was estimated to be approximately 3,000 people. Most Estonians who arrived in Australia following the end of World War Two came as 'Displaced Persons' or refugees who were leaving their homeland following the imposition of Soviet rule in 1944. Royal Alexandra Hospital For Children
The Children's Hospital at Westmead (formerly Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children) is a children's hospital in Western Sydney. The hospital was founded in 1880 as "The Sydney Hospital for Sick Children". Its name was changed to the "Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children" on 4 January 1904 when King Edward VII granted use of the appellation ‘Royal’ and his consort, Queen Alexandra, consented to the use of her name. William Wentworth (Australian Politician)
William Charles Wentworth (8 September 1907 – 15 June 2003), usually known as Bill Wentworth and sometimes referred to by others as William Charles Wentworth IV, was an Australian politician. He was a member of the Liberal Party for most of his career and held ministerial office in the governments of John Gorton and William McMahon, serving as Minister for Social Services (1968–1972) and Minister in charge of Aboriginal Affairs (1968–1971). Wentworth served in the House of Representatives from 1949 to 1977, representing the New South Wales seat of Mackellar. He frequently crossed the floor and served his final months in parliament as an independent. Eileen Furley
Mabel Eileen Furley (; 13 March 1900 – 20 September 1985) was the first woman to represent the Liberal Party in the New South Wales Legislative Council. The only child of accountant Frederick John Griffith Llewelyn and Alice, ''née'' Thompson, Eileen was born in Mosman and educated there and at Glebe Point, afterwards working as a secretary. She married salesman Norman William Furley on 14 February 1931 at Roseville; they would be childless. She was officer-in-charge of sugar rationing in New South Wales from 1942 to 1945 and was also active in the Council for Women in War Work, the National Council of Women and the Food for Britain Fund, as well as superintendent of the Mosman National Emergency Services. She joined the Liberal Democratic Party in 1943 but, along with most of the LDP, joined the Liberal Party in 1945.
