Lezignan 9s is a rugby league nines tournament held in Lézignan-Corbières, France. It was last held on the 15 and 16 September 2007. The organisation committee is considering moving the date of the event to late October, when British National League clubs would be available to participate. The date would also coincide with the release of the 'Vin Nouveau', which is a major event in this wine-producing area of southern France. Rugby league nines (or simply nines) is a version of rugby league football played with nine players on each side. The game is substantially the same as full rugby league, with some differences in rules and shorter games. Nines is usually played in festivals, as its shorter game play allows for a tournament to be completed in a day or over a single weekend. In July 2021, International Rugby League (IRL) chair Troy Grant stated that the organization was considering a bid for rugby league nines to be played at the 2032 Summer Olympics in Brisbane. Lézignan-Corbières
Lézignan-Corbières (; ) is a commune in the Aude department in the Occitanie region in southern France. Situated in the Corbières wine region not far from Narbonne, it has a Vine and Wine Museum (''Musée de la Vigne et du Vin''). Geography The river Orbieu flows northeast through the southeastern part of the commune and forms part of its eastern border.
