Leyla Birlik
Leyla Birlik (born 3 March 1974, Derik, Mardin) is a Kurdish politician of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) and a former member of the Gran National Assembly of Turkey. She is currently a member of the executive council and the head of the Women Committee in the Kurdistan National Congress. Political career Before she became an Member of Parliament she served as the president of the local council in Şırnak. Birlik was elected to the Turkish parliament in the general elections in June 2015 and re-elected in the snap elections of November 2015 both times representing Şırnak for the HDP. Legal prosecution She was arrested on the 4 November 2016 together with fellow HDP MPs Nursel Aydoğan, Selahattin Demirtaş, İdris Baluken, Figen Yüksekdag and Gülser Yildirim. Şırnak (electoral District)
Şırnak is an electoral district of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. It elects four members of parliament (deputies) to represent the Şırnak Province, province of the same name for a four-year term by the D'Hondt method, a party-list proportional representation system. Members Population reviews of each electoral district are conducted before each general election, which can lead to certain districts being granted a smaller or greater number of parliamentary seats. Şırnak became a province in 1990 and first sent members of parliament to Ankara - three of them - the following year. The seat allocation was increased to four ahead of the 2011 election. Kurdistan Workers' Party
The Kurdistan Workers' Party or PKK is a Kurdish militant political organization and armed guerrilla movement, which historically operated throughout Kurdistan, but is now primarily based in the mountainous Kurdish-majority regions of southeastern Turkey and northern Iraq. Death Of Hacı Lokman Birlik
Hacı Lokman Birlik was killed during the conflict between it and the Turkish Army on 2 or 3 October 2015. His dead body was tied to an armoured police vehicle in Şırnak, Turkey, an event that the Turkish police filmed, and shared on social media. The Turkish Ministry of the Interior confirmed the dragging of the dead body, justifying it by saying that authorities were concerned that a bomb may have been attached to the body.
