The Leyden High School District 212, named after Leiden, operates two high schools (9-12) in Cook County, Illinois, USA. History In 1913, the first Leyden was originally a two-year high school which is now present day Hester Junior High School in Franklin Park. It became a four-year high school in 1924 where it was known as Cook County District 212. With increase in population, the East Leyden building was expanded and finished by 1955. West Leyden was built and finished by 1959. In 1965, West Leyden housed Triton Junior College until its buildings were constructed in River Grove by 1969. West Leyden High School is a high school in Northlake, Illinois. First opened for enrollment in 1959, the athletic mascot of West Leyden High School was originally the Knights until 1981. At this time, the East and West Leyden High School athletic programs merged to create an athletic team currently known as the Eagles. East Leyden High School
East Leyden High School is a secondary school located in Franklin Park, Illinois (a suburb of Chicago) which educates grades 9-12. Together with West Leyden High School in Northlake, Illinois, they serve the suburban communities in Franklin Park, Northlake, Rosemont, Schiller Park, River Grove, Melrose Park and unincorporated Leyden Township. It expanded to a three-year school two years later and it finally became a four-year high school in 1924, the year that the District began. Triton College
Triton College is a public community college in River Grove, Illinois. History Junior College District 300 was voted into existence in a referendum in March 1964. In March 1965, a second referendum was passed approving the purchase of an campus site at Fifth Avenue and Palmer Street in River Grove. The school was named Triton College in recognition of the three high school districts that it encompassed – Elmwood Park, Leyden, and Proviso Township. Triton College opened in September 1965 and held classes at several of the high schools in its district.
