Lewis Maxwell
Lewis Maxwell (April 17, 1790 – February 13, 1862) was a United States House of Representatives, U.S. Representative from Virginia. Biography Born in Chester County, Pennsylvania, Maxwell moved with his mother to Virginia about 1800. He completed a preparatory course. He studied law. He was Admission to the bar in the United States, admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Weston, Virginia (now West Virginia). He served as member of the State house of delegates in 1821–1824. Maxwell was elected as an John Quincy Adams, Adams candidate to the 20th United States Congress, 20th U.S. Congress (1827-1829). He was reelected as an Anti-Jacksonian to the 21st United States Congress, 21st and 22nd United States Congress, 22nd U.S. Congresses (1827–1833). William Smith (Virginia Representative)
William Smith was an eighteenth- and nineteenth-century congressman from Virginia. Life and career Born in Chesterfield, Virginia, Smith graduated from the College of William and Mary in 1807. He studied law and relocated to Greenbrier County, Virginia. During the War of 1812 Smith served as a captain of artillery, stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. Smith was first elected to the House of Delegates for the session of 1819/20. He was elected a Democratic-Republican, Crawford Republican and Jacksonian to the United States House of Representatives in 1820, serving from 1821 to 1827. Smith served a second time in the House of Delegates for the session of 1828/29. West Union, West Virginia
West Union, incorporated July 20, 1881, is a town in Doddridge County, West Virginia, Doddridge County, West Virginia, United States. The population was 669 at the 2020 United States Census, 2020 census. It is the county seat of Doddridge County. The town is located along Middle Island Creek at the junction of U.S. Route 50 in West Virginia, U.S. Route 50 and West Virginia Route 18; the North Bend Rail Trail also passes through the town. History 18th and 19th centuries The area was first settled in the late 1780s by James Caldwell, who owned of land that included present West Union. Caldwell sold this land to Nathan Davis, Jr (1772-1866) and his brothers about 1807. They in turn sold to Lewis Maxwell (1790-1862), a Virginia congressman. The settlement was originally called Lewisport, but Davis later supposedly suggested the name of "West Union", in deference to a proposed town of Union to be built on the eastern side of Middle Island Creek.
