Thomas Lewinski
Thomas Lewinski (abt. 1800—September 18, 1882) was an architect in Kentucky, United States. Born in England, he immigrated to the United States. For his work at Allenhurst and elsewhere, Lewinski was known in his day as one of the leading architects of the Greek Revival style. He designed many architecturally significant buildings that survive and are listed on the United States National Register of Historic Places. Early life and education Lewinski trained for the Catholic priesthood and later studied architecture in England and emigrated to the United States before 1838 when he is listed as an instructor in language at the University of Louisville. He moved to Lexington, Kentucky in 1842 to begin his architectural practice. Jorge Lewinski (1921–2008) was a Polish–British photographer and soldier. Born in Lwów, Poland (now Lviv, Ukraine), in 1921, Lewinski survived Russian occupation, internment, and forced labour in Siberia. After conscription into the Polish army, he served with Allied forces in South-west Asia. In 1942, he was sent to Britain to join the RAF, and afterwards settled. In 1966, having developed a name for himself through the portraiture of artists, he became the pre-eminent photographer of artists in Britain. Eduard Von Lewinski
Eduard Julius Ludwig von Lewinski (22 February 1829 – 17 September 1906) was a Prussian general. His younger brother Alfred von Lewinski also became a Prussian general. Von Lewinski was born in Münster in the Province of Westphalia. He served in the 1864 Second Schleswig War as captain of the 1st Guards Fortress Company, and received the prestigious Pour le Mérite. In the Austro-Prussian War he was assigned to the 1st Division as a staff officer. In 1867 Lewinski was promoted to major on the general staff. He later served in the Franco-Prussian War, first on the staff of the 1st Division and later as Quartermaster-General of the South Army. In 1871 he became chief of staff of the IX Corps. In 1872 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and assumed command of the 24th Artillery Regiment. Fritz Erich Georg Eduard von Manstein (born Fritz Erich Georg Eduard von Lewinski; 24 November 1887 – 9 June 1973) was a German Field Marshal of the ''Wehrmacht'' during the Second World War, who was subsequently convicted of war crimes and sentenced to 18 years imprisonment. Born into an aristocratic Prussian family with a long history of military service, Manstein joined the army at a young age and saw service on both the Western and Eastern Front during the First World War (1914–18). He rose to the rank of captain by the end of the war and was active in the inter-war period helping Germany rebuild its armed forces.
