Kurt Lewin
Kurt Lewin ( ; 9 September 1890 – 12 February 1947) was a German-American psychologist, known as one of the modern pioneers of social, organizational, and applied psychology in the United States. During his professional career Lewin applied himself to three general topics: applied research, action research, and group communication. Lewin is often recognized as the "founder of social psychology" and was one of the first to study group dynamics and organizational development. A ''Review of General Psychology'' survey, published in 2002, ranked Lewin as the 18th-most cited psychologist of the 20th century. Nathan Lewin
Nathan Lewin (born January 31, 1936) is an American attorney who has argued many cases before the Supreme Court of the United States. Early life and education Lewin was born in Łódź, Poland. His grandfather, the chief rabbi of Rzeszow, was elected to and served twice as a member of the Polish Legislature (“Sejm”). Lewin’s father, who was elected twice to the Lodz City Council, was later a professor of Jewish History at Yeshiva University’s Bernard Revel Graduate School and a prolific author in Polish, Yiddish, Hebrew, and English. Lewin's family fled Poland just ahead of the Nazis in 1939, and arrived in the United States in 1941, where Lewin grew up in New York City. He is a Sugihara survivor. Moshe Lewin
Moshe "Misha" Lewin ( ; 7 November 1921 – 14 August 2010) was a scholar of Russian and Soviet history. He was a major figure in the school of Soviet studies which emerged in the 1960s. Biography Moshe Lewin was born in 1921 in Wilno, Poland (now Vilnius, Lithuania), the son of ethnic Jewish parents who were later murdered in the Holocaust. John Lewin
John William Lewin (1770 – 27 August 1819) was an English-born artist active in Australia from 1800. The first professional artist of the colony of New South Wales, he illustrated the earliest volumes of Australian natural history. Many of his illustrations were of native Australian birds on native Australian plants. John Philip Lewin (3 June 1915 – 4 May 1990) was a New Zealand public servant, unionist and lawyer. Biography Early life and career Lewin was born in Masterton, New Zealand, on 3 June 1915. His family experienced hardships after his father was prematurely retired from his job at the Railway Department after organising employees against salary reductions. He was educated at Palmerston North Boys' High School before leaving school to briefly work in commerce and journalism before beginning a career in the civil service. David Lewin
David Benjamin Lewin (July 2, 1933 – May 5, 2003) was an American music theorist, music critic and composer. Called "the most original and far-ranging theorist of his generation", he did his most influential theoretical work on the development of transformational theory, which involves the application of mathematical group theory to music. Biography Lewin was born in New York City and studied piano from a young age and was for a time a pupil of Eduard Steuermann. He graduated from Harvard in 1954 with a degree in mathematics. Gary Lewin
Gary Lewin (born 16 May 1964) is an English physiotherapist who has worked with football clubs Arsenal and West Ham United, and the England national team. Lewin was the head physiotherapist at Arsenal for a total of 22 years. He held a similar position from 1996 with England, and from 2008 to 2017 assumed the post of England's Senior Head of Physiotherapy. He was Head of Medical Services for West Ham between May 2017 and May 2018. Biography Lewin joined Arsenal as a young goalkeeper aged 16 in 1980. Benjamin Lewin
Benjamin Lewin is a molecular biologist who founded the journal ''Cell'' and authored the textbook ''Genes.'' He is credited with building ''Cell'' into a recognized journal of cellular biology in a short period of time to rival ''Nature'' and ''Science''. Following a tutorial session at the University of Sussex, Lewin became editor of ''Nature New Biology''. He left to work at the National Institutes of Health and, while working there, developed his ideas for a comprehensive biology journal. He founded ''Cell'' in 1974 and it was published by the MIT Press until 1986, when Lewin bought the title outright, founding his own independent publishing company, Cell Press. Louis Lewin (9 November 1850 - 1 December 1929) was a German pharmacologist. In 1887 he received his first sample of the Peyote cactus from Dallas, Texas-based physician John Raleigh Briggs (1851-1907), and later published the first methodical analysis of it, causing a variant to be named ''Anhalonium lewinii'' in his honor. Hugh Lewin (3 December 1939 – 16 January 2019) was a South African anti-apartheid activist and writer. He was imprisoned from 1964 to 1971 for his activities in support of the African Resistance Movement, and then spent 20 years in exile, returning to South Africa in 1992.
