Levenshulme High School for Girls, also known as Levenshulme High School, is a girls' secondary school with Academy (English school), academy status located in the Levenshulme area of Manchester, England. History The school was opened by the Katharine Stewart-Murray, Duchess of Atholl, Duchess of Atholl in 1929. The school previously had two sites, a lower school for pupils in their first two years on Moseley Road, and an upper school on the current site, the sites merged in 1986. The lower school was previously Moseley Road School Recent history The school moved into a new building on the same site in 2011 with the original building being refurbished and reoccupied from 2012. ''Queer as Folk'' is a 1999 British television series that chronicles the lives of three gay men living in Manchester's gay village around Canal Street. Initially running for eight episodes, a two-part follow up was shown in 2000. It was written by Russell T Davies and produced by Red Production Company for Channel 4. Background The title of the programme comes from a historic English saying, "there's nowt so queer as folk", meaning "there's nothing as strange as people"; which is a word play on the modern-day English sense of "queer", as homosexual. Patricia Kirkwood (24 February 1921 – 25 December 2007) was a British stage actress, singer and dancer who appeared in numerous performances of dramas, cabaret, revues, music hall, variety and pantomimes. Dorothy Bromiley
Dorothy Bromiley Phelan (born 18 September 1930) is a British former film, stage and television actress and authority on historic domestic needlework. Life Born in Manchester, Lancashire, the only child of Frank Bromiley and Ada Winifred (née Thornton). Whalley Range 11–18 High School, also known as Whalley Range High School is a girls' school in Whalley Range, Manchester, England. History The school was founded in 1891 and was bought by the Education Committee of the Corporation in 1908 when it provided place for 300 girls. A few years later it was extended by the purchase of Alder House and the number of places were increased to 370. Levenshulme () is an area of Manchester, England, bordering Fallowfield, Longsight, Gorton, Burnage, Heaton Chapel and Reddish; it is approximately halfway between Stockport and Manchester city centre on the A6.
