Sergei Appolinarievich Gerasimov (russian: Серге́й Апполина́риевич Гера́симов; 21 May 1906 – 26 November 1985) was a Soviet film director and screenwriter. The oldest film school in the world, the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography (VGIK), bears his name. Early life and education Gerasimov was born on 21 May 1906. Career Gerasimov started his film industry career as an actor in 1924. At first he appeared in Kozintsev and Trauberg films, such as ''The Overcoat'' and ''The New Babylon''. Count Sergei Lvovich Tolstoy (Russian: Сергей Львович Толстой; 10 July 1863, Yasnaya Polyana – 23 December 1947, Moscow) was a composer and ethnomusicologist who was among the first Europeans to make an in-depth study of the music of India. Lyudmila Vasilyevna Zaytseva (russian: Людмила Васильевна Зайцева; born 21 July 1946) is a Soviet and Russian film actress, People's Artist of the RSFSR (1989) and laureate of the State Prize of the USSR (1983). Her movie career began in 1967. During the Russian presidential election of 1996, she was a confidant of Gennady Zyuganov and supported his election campaign by travelling with concert brigades throughout the country.
