Leusden () is a municipality and a town in the Netherlands, in the province of Utrecht (province), Utrecht. It is located about 3 kilometres southeast of Amersfoort. The western part of the municipality lies on the slopes of the Utrecht Hill Ridge and is largely covered by forest and heathlands. The eastern parts lie in the and are mostly agricultural. Former Amersfoort concentration camp lies just within the northern municipal border with Amersfoort. Oud-Leusden is a hamlet in the Netherlands, Dutch province of Utrecht (province), Utrecht. History Oud-Leusden ("old-Leusden") was formerly just called "Leusden". The name is known from the year 777, when ''villa Lisaduna'' was a large farm complex with defences. The church tower of Oud-Leusden was originally part of a church, which before the reformation was dedicated to Anthony the Great, Saint Anthony. In the nineteenth century, most of the churchgoing population lived in the nearby village of Leusbroek (now Leusden-Zuid), and the church was replaced with a new one in Leusbroek, and demolished in 1828. Leusden-Zuid is a neighbourhood and former village in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is a part of the municipality of Leusden, and lies about 6 km south of Amersfoort. The village is now part of Leusden. Until about 1969, the village was named "Leusbroek". Asschat
Asschat is a hamlet in the municipality Leusden, in the Dutch province of Utrecht. The hamlet is separated from the village of Leusden in the west by the Valleikanaal canal, and it borders the hamlet Snorrenhoef in the east. The name Asschat (1696) derives from ''af-schede, afscheiding'': partition, indicating an old border. Stoutenburg
Stoutenburg is a village in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is a part of the municipality of Leusden, and lies about east of Amersfoort. Since 1998, a part of the village is a neighbourhood in Amersfoort. History The village was first mentioned in 1262 as Walter van Stoltenberch, and means "strong hill" which is a reference to castle Stoutenburg. In 1252, the castle Stoutenburg near the village was founded by the lord of Amersfoort. From 1615, the castle was owned by Johan van Oldenbarnevelt. The castle was replaced by a manor, built in 1888. In 1948, the estate which was heavily damaged by war was bought by the Franciscans, and in 1952, a monastery opened. In 2019, the manor house was turned in an apartment building for people with Alzheimer. In 1840, Stoutenburg was home to 584 people. Achterveld is a village in the central Netherlands. It is a part of the municipality of Leusden, Utrecht and is located about 8 km east of Amersfoort. Amersfoort Concentration Camp
Kamp Amersfoort (, ) was a Nazi concentration camp near the city of Amersfoort, the Netherlands. The official name was "Polizeiliches Durchgangslager Amersfoort", P.D.A. or Amersfoort Police Transit Camp. 47,000 prisoners were held there between 1941 and 1945. The camp was situated in the northern part of the municipality of Leusden, on the municipal boundary between Leusden and Amersfoort in the central Netherlands. Early history In 1939, Kamp Amersfoort was still a complex of barracks that supported army artillery exercises on the nearby Leusderheide. Marieke Wijsman
Anne Marie Louise (Marieke) Wijsman (born 9 May 1975) is a Dutch former speed skater who represented her country in two Winter Olympics, and who was the first female speed skater to compete internationally on clap skates. Early years Wijsman was born in Leusden, near Utrecht, Netherlands, and became a member of a local speed skating club in Ankeveen during the 1988-89 season. She first competed at the age of thirteen at the Jaap Edenbaan in Amsterdam, where she fell in the 500m race due to nervousness. In the second 500m race she recovered and finished in 1:07.1, while she skated in her first competitive 1000m race that same weekend, finishing with a time of 2:44.0. Joyce Arleen Auger (sometimes spelled Augér ; September 13, 1939 – June 10, 1993) was an American coloratura soprano, known for her interpretations of works by Bach, Handel, Haydn, Monteverdi, Mozart, and Schubert. She won a posthumous Grammy Award for "Best Classical Vocal Performance" in 1994. Early life and education Auger was born in South Gate, California and grew up in Huntington Beach. Her father, Everett Auger, was a noted minister who emigrated from Canada with his wife Doris (née Moody). As a child, Auger studied voice, violin and piano. She received a BA in Education from California State University at Long Beach in 1963. Her first job was as a kindergarten and first grade teacher. Marike Jager
Marike Jager (born 4 February 1979 in Amersfoort) is a Dutch singer-songwriter, guitarist and television presenter. She grew up in Leusden and learned to play the guitar while backpacking through Australia, New Zealand, Asia and South Africa. There she wrote her first song 'Lizzy'. When she got back in the Netherlands she went to the stages, quickly winning the 'Studenten Songfestival in Maastricht (songfestival for students in Maastricht). Ansfridus Of Utrecht
Saint Ansfried (also Ansfrid, Ansfridus) of Utrecht sometimes called Ansfried the younger (died 3 May 1010 near Leusden) was Count of Huy and the sword-bearer for Otto I, Holy Roman Emperor.
