What It Is To Burn
''What It Is to Burn'' is the debut album by American rock band Finch. It was released on March 12, 2002, through MCA and Drive-Thru Records. After finalizing their line-up, Finch signed to Drive-Thru. Recording for the album took place between June and September 2001 with producer Mark Trombino. A music video for " Letters to You" was released in January 2003. The title-track " What Is It to Burn" was released as the lead single in January 2003, followed by the single "Letters to You" in April of that year. "New Beginnings"/"What It Is to Burn" was released as the third and final single on a double A-side in August 2003. "Letters to You" charted at number 39 on the UK Singles Chart, while "What It Is to Burn" charted within the top 40 of the US Alternative Songs and Mainstream Rock charts. Drive-Thru Records
Drive-Thru Records was a California-based independent record label owned by siblings Richard and Stefanie Reines. The label was partially responsible for popularizing the pop-punk/emo merger sound of the early to mid-2000s. After facing financial obstacles in getting their bands' music into stores, Drive-Thru entered into a distribution deal with MCA/Universal. In 2003 MCA was dissolved and folded into Geffen Records. One of the clauses of that agreement was MCA/Geffen being able to sign any band of their choosing from Drive-Thru's roster. Once the Universal deal ended, they signed a contract with independent label Sanctuary Records. Starting with a new roster, the label garnered a top 10 platinum hit with "Here In Your Arms" by Hellogoodbye. Finch is an American rock band from Temecula, California. The band released an EP ''Falling into Place'' and two full-length albums, ''What It Is to Burn'' and ''Say Hello to Sunshine'' before declaring a hiatus in 2006. Finch reformed in 2007, playing a reunion show on November 23 at the Glasshouse in Pomona, California. They released a self-titled EP a year later, and were in the process of writing their third studio album when they disbanded in late 2010. After playing a group of shows commemorating the ten-year anniversary of ''What It Is to Burn'' in 2012, Finch signed with Razor & Tie in 2014 and revealed that they were working on a new studio album. "What It Is to Burn" is the first single and title track off the album ''What It Is to Burn'' by the U.S. post-hardcore band Finch. It was released as a single in 2003 and was featured in the pilot episode of '' One Tree Hill''. A demo version of the song was released on the Drive-Thru Records compilation CD '' Welcome to the Family'' in 2001. Background In an interview with AOL, lead singer Nate Barcalow said he wrote this song from the viewpoint of a man in hell sending a letter to his loved one.
