Letterkenny Regional Sports And Leisure Complex
Letterkenny Regional Sports and Leisure Complex is a sports complex located in Letterkenny, County Donegal, Ireland. Located near O'Donnell Park, RTÉ Television has broadcast live from the venue on several occasions. Construction Construction of the building began in 2002. The complex was meant to be finished construction in January 2007 but was not completed until four months later. Total cost of the building of the complex was €22.7 million. An open day for the complex was held on 18 and 19 May 2007, with the complex opened to the public on Monday 9 July 2007. Facilities The Aura Management Company operate the centre. The complex includes a 25m (6 lane) swimming pool, a gym, a 2,500 seat sports hall, an athletic track (named after Danny McDaid), soccer pitch, children's play area and skate park. Letterkenny ( ga, Leitir Ceanainn , meaning 'hillside of the O'Cannons'), nicknamed 'the Cathedral Town', is the largest and most populous town in County Donegal, a county in Ulster, the northern province in Ireland. Letterkenny lies on the River Swilly in East Donegal in the north-west of Ulster, and has a population of 19,274. It is the 36th largest settlement in all of Ireland by population (placing it ahead of Sligo, Larne, Banbridge, Armagh and Killarney), and is the 15th largest settlement by population in the province of Ulster (most of which comprises the separate jurisdiction of modern-day Northern Ireland). Andrew David Townsend (born 23 July 1963) is a former professional footballer and sports co-commentator for Premier League Productions and CBS Sports. As a player he was a midfielder who notably played in the Premier League for Chelsea, Aston Villa and Middlesbrough. Creeslough Explosion
The Creeslough explosion occurred on 7 October 2022 at an Applegreen petrol station in Creeslough, a village in north County Donegal, Ireland. It killed ten people and left eight hospitalised; the highest number of civilian casualties in the county in decades. The cause is uncertain, but investigators suspect an accidental gas leak. Explosion The explosion occurred at 15:17 IST at an Applegreen petrol station and adjacent building, seriously damaging the forecourt and partially collapsing the adjoining building. Paul McCloskey (born 3 August 1979) is a former professional boxer from Northern Ireland who competed from 2005 to 2013. He held the British super-lightweight title from 2008 to 2009; the European super-lightweight title from 2009 to 2011; and challenged once for the WBA super-lightweight title in 2011.
