Alternative Hip Hop
Alternative hip hop (also known as alternative rap) is a subgenre of hip hop music that encompasses a wide range of styles that are not typically identified as mainstream. AllMusic defines it as comprising " hip hop groups that refuse to conform to any of the traditional stereotypes of rap, such as gangsta, bass, hardcore, and party rap. Instead, they blur genres drawing equally from funk and pop/rock, as well as jazz, soul, reggae, and even folk." Alternative hip hop developed in the late 1980s and experienced a degree of mainstream recognition during the early-to-mid 1990s. ''Jonestown'' is an album by Canadian hip hop artist D-Sisive. Released in 2009, the album was D-Sisive's second full-length release that year after ''Let the Children Die'', and was made available for a free digital download. The album art features a jug of Kool-Aid, an allusion to the phrase "drinking the Kool-Aid", which is associated with the 1978 Jonestown mass murder–suicide. Rob Bakker, better known by his stage name Muneshine, is a Canadian recording artist, record producer, DJ and mix engineer and performer. Since 2005, Muneshine has released three major label projects in Japan, and contributed production and vocal appearances on more. Luke Boyd (born December 13, 1977), better known by his stage name Classified, is a Canadian rapper and record producer from Enfield, Nova Scotia. Byron Dwayne “Guilty” Simpson is an American rapper and songwriter from Detroit, Michigan whose recording career spans more than 20 years. Juno Awards Of 2012
The Juno Awards of 2012 honoured Canadian music industry achievements in the latter part of 2010 and in most of 2011. The awards were presented in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada during the weekend of 31 March and 1 April 2012. A week of related events began on 26 March 2012. Blue Rodeo was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. Broadcast executive Gary Slaight was designated the 2012 recipient of the Walt Grealis Special Achievement Award. Bidding Ottawa's bid for the awards became known in March 2011 when it was revealed the province of Ontario allocated $100,000 in funding towards the city's 2012 Juno Awards bid.
