Social Distortion
Social Distortion is an American punk rock band formed in 1978 in Fullerton, California. The band currently consists of Mike Ness (lead vocals, lead guitar), Jonny Wickersham (rhythm guitar, backing vocals), Brent Harding (bass, backing vocals), David Hidalgo Jr. (drums), and David Kalish (keyboards). Starting as a hardcore punk band in the late 1970s to the early 1980s, Social Distortion went on a temporary hiatus in the mid-1980s, due to Ness's drug addiction and troubles with the law which resulted in extended stints in various rehabilitation centers that lasted for two years. Following their reformation, the band has shifted its style to a country, blues and early rock and roll-influenced style of punk. Christopher Reece
Christopher Reece (sometimes known as Chris Reece) (born July 28, 1959) is an American musician. He was the drummer of The Lewd (1981–1983) and Social Distortion (1984–1993). Reece was 22 years old in 1981 when he started playing drums for The Lewd. He left the band in 1983. The following year he was hired by Mike Ness to join Social Distortion, along with bassist John Maurer. Reece's first recording with the band was the 1988 release ''Prison Bound''. He also played drums on their next two albums, the eponymous ''Social Distortion'' (1990) and ''Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell'' (1992). Reece left Social Distortion in 1993 and was replaced by Randy Carr. In 1998 Reece started producing an antique shopping guide called Reece's Antique and Retro Shopper's Map. John Maurer (Social Distortion)
John Maurer (born July 14, 1961) is an American musician who was a longtime bass guitarist for Social Distortion from 1984 to 2004. Career He joined Social Distortion in early 1984 following the departure of Brent Liles. He played on every album from ''Prison Bound'' to ''Sex, Love and Rock 'n' Roll''. He has a songwriting credit on the song "So Far Away" from Social Distortion's 1990 eponymous album along with frontman Mike Ness. In his later career he started two bands, Foxy and Fuel, while still playing for Social Distortion. He also started his own record company called Slip Records. He stated in an interview with HM Magazine that, while in Social Distortion, he became a devout Christian. He was replaced by Rancid's Matt Freeman in August 2004. Dennis Eric Danell (June 24, 1961 – February 29, 2000) was an American musician, guitarist and co-founding member of the Southern California punk rock band Social Distortion. Biography Danell joined Social Distortion in 1979 while he and frontman Mike Ness attended Troy High School (Fullerton, CA) together. Mike recruited him to play guitar despite not yet knowing how to play an instrument. Due to this, the other members, Casey Royer and Rikk Agnew left as they did not want to wait for him to learn. When Social Distortion recorded its first single in 1981, ''Mainline/Playpen'', Danell was the bassist, choosing this because it was "easier to play. I only had to hit single notes rather than forming chords". Shortly after the brief bass stint, Danell switched to guitar after Ness taught him how to play.
