Leslie Street
Leslie Street is a north-south route in Toronto and York Region, Ontario, Canada. It is distinctive because of its four unconnected segments. History The road has a long history and dates back to 1850s Toronto Nursery that was run by George Leslie. Leslie was one of the first settlers in the area, at the time a community named Leslieville, located two miles east of the-then city limits of Toronto. There were two Leslies mentioned in the city directory of 1869, G. Leslie and Sons of the nursery fame and George Leslie Jr. who ran the post office and, by 1899, the telegraph station. The concession road that passed close to the nursery was later named after the Leslies', running as far north as the Grand Trunk Railway (now Canadian National Railway) tracks, with an unopened road allowance continuing north to Danforth Avenue. Gerrard Street (Toronto)
Gerrard Street is a street in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It consists of two separate parts, historically referred to as Lower Gerrard and Upper Gerrard. The former stretches between University Avenue (Toronto), University Avenue and Coxwell Avenue for 6 km, across Old Toronto. The latter portion starts 300 m north of Lower Gerrard's eastern terminus and runs between Coxwell Avenue and Clonmore Drive, between Victoria Park Avenue and Warden Avenue, in Scarborough, Toronto, Scarborough for another 4 km. Major Mackenzie Drive
Major Mackenzie Drive, often shortened to Major Mac, is a major east-west arterial road in southern York Region, Ontario, Canada, just north of Toronto. It is a York regional road, numbered as York Regional Road 25, and passes through the three cities of southern York Region: Vaughan, Ontario, Richmond Hill, and Markham. It does not continue outside of York Region as an east-west road, but does cross into Brampton (in Peel Region) as Coleraine Drive which immediately curves sharply at the boundary to head north towards Bolton. Name The road was named after Major Addison Alexander MacKenzie, a former local politician and World War I veteran. History The road was laid out during the planning by early settlers in the region to divide the land into farms. King's Highway 7, commonly referred to as Highway 7 (abbreviated as Hwy 7) and historically as the Northern Highway, is a Ontario Provincial Highway Network, provincially maintained highway in the Provinces and territories of Canada, Canadian province of Ontario. John Street (Markham)
John Street is an east-west collector and arterial road in the City of Markham, Ontario, Canada. It is one of the oldest roads in the Markham and forms the east-west backbone of the 200-year-old community of Thornhill. The street originally ran east from Yonge Street across a tributary of the Don River, at which point it branched north to what is now Leslie Street and south on German Mills Road. This was a travelled road which did not match the alignment of any concession road or lot line and was constructed along the most convenient route to farms and mills to serve the needs of the inhabitants at that time. Steeles Avenue
Steeles Avenue is an east–west street that stretches across the western and central Greater Toronto Area in Ontario, Canada. Running from Appleby Line in Milton in the west to the Scarborough-Pickering Townline in the east, where it continues east into Durham Region as Taunton Road, which itself extends across the length of Durham Region to its boundary with Northumberland County. It is most notable for being the north city limit of Toronto where it borders the southern limit of York Region along its eastern half. York Region refers to Steeles Avenue as York Regional Road 95 but this use is only internal and there are no signs posted; as the street borders and is maintained by the City of Toronto. Finch Avenue is an arterial road, arterial thoroughfare that travels east–west in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The road continues west into the Regional Municipality of Peel as List of numbered roads in Peel Region, Regional Road 2 and east into the Regional Municipality of Durham as List of numbered roads in Durham Region, Regional Road 37.
