Leslie A. Miller
Leslie Andrew Miller (January 29, 1886September 29, 1970) was an American politician who served as the 17th governor of Wyoming from January 2, 1933, until January 2, 1939. He was a Democrat. Biography Miller was born in Junction City, Kansas on January 29, 1886. In 1892, his family moved to Wyoming. He served in the United States Marines from 1918 until 1919. He entered politics following his service and was elected to the Wyoming House of Representatives. He was elected 17th Governor of Wyoming. He took his oath and was sworn in on December 27, 1932, 6-days early. He took office on January 2, 1933. Governor Miller was re-elected in 1935 and he replaced hanging with the gas chamber for executions. In 1938, he was defeated by Nels H. Smith. Alonzo Monroe Clark
Alonzo Monroe Clark (August 13, 1868 – October 12, 1952) was an American politician who was the 16th Governor of Wyoming from 1931 to 1933. A Republican, he took office after sitting governor Frank Emerson's death. He lost his re-election campaign. Biography Clark was born in Flint, Indiana. He was raised and educated in Nebraska after his family moved there from Indiana. After graduating from Nebraska State Teachers College in 1898, he served as Superintendent of Schools for Dawes County, Nebraska, before moving to Wyoming in 1901. He homesteaded more than in Campbell County, Wyoming, and was a teacher. In 1926, he was elected Secretary of State, and he was re-elected in 1930. When the then-current governor, Frank Emerson died, on February 18, 1931, just six weeks into his second term, Clark succeeded to the governorship. Wyoming State Senate
The Wyoming Senate is the upper house of the Wyoming State Legislature. There are 30 Senators in the Senate, representing an equal number of constituencies across Wyoming, each with a population of at least 17,000. The Senate meets at the Wyoming State Capitol in Cheyenne. Members of the Senate serve four year terms without term limits. Term limits were declared unconstitutional by the Wyoming Supreme Court in 2004, overturning a decade-old law that had restricted Senators to three terms (twelve years). Like other upper houses of state and territorial legislatures and the federal U.S. Senate, the Wyoming Senate can confirm or reject gubernatorial appointments to the state cabinet, commissions, boards, or justices to the Wyoming Supreme Court. 1932 Wyoming Gubernatorial Special Election
The 1932 Wyoming gubernatorial special election took place on November 8, 1932. Just several weeks into his second term, Republican governor Frank Emerson died in office. Secretary of State Alonzo M. Clark ascended to the governorship, and a special election was called for 1934. Clark ran for re-election, but was defeated in the Republican primary by State Treasurer Harry R. Weston. Meanwhile, former state senator Leslie A. Miller, the unsuccessful Democratic nominee against Emerson in 1930, once again ran for the office and won the Democratic primary. In the general election, another close election ensued. But Miller, likely aided by Franklin D.
